Apologies in advance if I am too old for this thread too,. but I was also a student who got very bored in some classes because of wanting to do more advanced work.

Being born early in the year (4th March) the rules could have been bent to let me start school a year earlier; but because I was small for my age and a bit emotionally immmature, it was decided to let me start with my age peers.

I soon started getting in trouble for being naughty because of being so bored and looking out the window. When we had a set reader that we were supposed to study for a whole term, I would read it in one night.

The teacher promised to give me harder books to read but this never eventuated in 1st or 2nd grade and by 3rd grade, I thought what's the point of trying my hardest so I just started coasting along with the minimum amount of effort it needed to get a B+ average.

The worst thing was being actively discouraged from excelling because it "might" upset the other students/workmates. What about how upset I felt when I was continually held back? I really wish there had been a gifted child programme back in those days.
