There have been unconfirmed reports of mules breeding.  I can't imagine how you could have a significant population of healthy animals (such as the large number of mules that used to be used in agriculture) without having any of them capable of breeding.

The claim about the Neandertal link seems largely based on the claim that the Afro-American population has a lower incidence of ASD.  I think that the incidence of ASD is more likely to be under-reported in the Afro-American population than the Caucasian population due to the expense of psychologists, people who are poorer would be expected to have more undiagnosed issues than more wealthy people.

I don't think that Aspies lack creativity or necessarily lack ability to interpret poetry (although some do).  I tend to have different interpretations of poetry to NTs, some people say that there is no "right" interpretation of a poem - but my high-school literature teacher thought that my interpretations were wrong.

I just watched an interesting TED lecture by VS Ramachandran about mirror neurons.  After watching that I have been wondering whether Aspies have fewer or less functional mirror neurons.  That would explain being less able to copy NTs and lacking empathy - but it could also explain more creativity due to being less able to copy existing (and therefore non-creative) solutions to a problem.
