RE: Is My Migraines Linked To Aspergers
An awful lot of people have an allergy to monosodium glutamate. (NSG) There is even more insidous chemicals used in food. especially meat. Look for these numbers.
220 Sulphur dioxide
221 Sodium sulphite
222 Sodium bisulphite
223 Sodium metabisulphite
224 Potassium metabisulphite
225 Potassium sulphite
228 Potassium bisulphite
all are used a lot to make meat look younger than it actually is by production of SO2. Normally meat will brown a bit over time via oxidation, but the addition of sulphites prevents this happening. Problem is a lot of people suffer very severe allergies to death from this as well. I am sensitive to it and can get quite sick from its use. But it is undetectable by taste and smell and hides the presence of poor hygeine as well (heaps of very unfriendly bacteria).
Rule 1. Never, ever, give up (mind blanks excepted)
Rule 2. Refer to rule 1.

RE: Is My Migraines Linked To Aspergers
I get migraines because I'm sensitive to light, don't know whether it's true photophobia or if it's because of sensory overload though.
"Philosophical problems arise when language goes on holiday" - Ludwig Wittgenstein: April 26th (my birthday!) 1889-April 29th 1951 (supposedly HFA Austrian-British philosopher).
Your score: 47
0 - 10 = low 11 - 22 = average (most women score about 15 and most men score about 17) 23 - 31 = above average 32 - 50 is very high (most people with Asperger Syndrome or high-functioning autism score about 35).

Most all functions of the body are regulated by hormones...

RE: Is My Migraines Linked To Aspergers
I only have migraines when I'm surrounded by others in a very small place, with bright lights, with lots of noises, scents, etc.

In the US, they also use sulphites to sterilize wine bottles before bottling. This results in a really high sulphite content in the wine (much higher than the naturally occuring sulphite content from the grapes). Drinking more than one glass of most American wines will trigger a monster headache for me and a migraine for my husband.

RE: Is My Migraines Linked To Aspergers
I found the information about types of sulfite and different ways they might be used to be very informative. As far as monosodium glutamate (MSG) is concerned, the ingredient is sometimes hidden with names of other ingredients (at least in the United States, and perhaps in other countries also). Even "natural flavors" or "spices" could contain MSG. A large number of ingredients either certainly hide MSG or possibly hide it, and a web search for a phrase such as "hidden sources of MSG" can help in finding useful information. I have a concern about MSG being sprayed on crops in the US and possibly affecting the honeybees. The author Russell L. Blaylock, MD has some interesting material on MSG and aspartame in his book "Excitotoxins: The Taste that Kills."

I made a mistake. Free glutamic acid is what goes on crops if I remember correctly; it is related to MSG and similar to it in effect on neurons in disproportionately high amounts, but free glutamic acid is not MSG itself.

RE: Is My Migraines Linked To Aspergers
I get migraines, but rarely. I find however that if I take a single-dose aspirin when I feel the familiar "aura" coming on I can often short-circuit the headache part, just leaving me with the sensory distortions. Which is still bad (try cooking dinner for three when you can't walk to the fridge in a straight line!) but at least the pain doesn't eventuate.
I also found that I tended to get migraine whenever I took my daughter to swimming lessons. I'm not sure if it was the smell of the chlorine or the flash of sunlight off the moving water that caused it. As the migraines that I do get are always worse in the summer months, though, I feel it may have something to do with photophobia.

I also suffer from migraines.
I do at least get a forewarning - I get very narrow tunnel vision in one eye - it alternates each time.
Luckily, I've only had them in places where I could safely stagger around.

I found out my cause is probably true photophobia. If I wear sunglasses it is not as bad and I don't get a migraine (as long as the tint isn't green). If I wear ordinary glasses it gets worse. I found this to be because lenses correct the amount of light entering the eye to make it hit the back of the eye. This is why I get severe headaches when wearing ordinary glasses and don't wear them. I really need some tinted lenses combined with ordinary glasses. The colour is important for me because I'm colourblind (as everyone probably knows).

The strerilizing one is sodium metabisulphite. And a lot of wines use it as a preservative also (sodium sulphite) as it prevents the oxidation of wine into vinegar. One small problem, a monster headache and other unwanted symptoms and its not a hangover.
Its actually illegal for them to use on meat here, but the unscrupulous still do. Some real natural food would make for a pleasent change rather than an unwanted chemical cocktail.

RE: Is My Migraines Linked To Aspergers
I read that a magnesium deficiency is common in people on the spectrum. A deficiency of magnesium can cause sensitivity to light and sound, and cause increase frequency of migraine headaches. The other thing was that serotonin is said to be low when Migraines occur, and 5HTp is tryptophan that converts to serotonin. Also, Magnesium is needed to convert tryptophan to serotonin. I discovered on accident that blueberries stopped me from having the aura and the one sided paralysis when I was getting a migraine. I have also read that CoQ10 reduces the frequency of Migraine headaches by half. The amount that reduced the headaches was 300mg a day. I get pretty bad headaches too and some of this was very helpful.

RE: Is My Migraines Linked To Aspergers
A question, how much does a migraine attack hurt?
And no, Migraine is BY NO MEANS linked to AS, meltdowns may just cause a headache because of the large amount of sorrow, migraine is something completely different.
