Do Autistics see time differently? If so, is the difference uniform enough to consider devising our own 'clock?' (only half-serious about that...)
yqueen,
There DOES seem to be a tendency with autistics to have difficulty understanding the passage of time, but that doesn't exactly lend itself to making a new clock.

The idea of a language for those of us with autism is . I took six years to graduate high school because I could't pass english (anything other than grammar- especially literature) and this was before I was diagnosed. When I was in HS, I peer tutored students with a wide range of disabilities from LD to MR to ASD and even a couple deaf students (both occuring alone and as a comorbidity.) I remember asking the special ed teacher for english if anyone ever thought about simplifying english or creating a simplified language to make life easier for these students(and me). She looked at me as though I had magically grown a third eye. I explained what I knew of such disabilities and that I have had my own writing system since middle school(not per se "simplified" compared to english). She said I was hyperlexic and over-thought things(odd that I was later diagnosed with AS  ). I am visiting the school this coming week and fully intend to take her a print-out of the autlang website. You all please keep up the wonderful work and I am behind you 100%.

Re: grammatical question
No articles (a, an, the)?? How can you tell whether an Autlang speaker is referring to something general or specific?
Chinese manages fine without them ... not sure how, though, as I didn't get that far.

I wouldn't mind some specilized insults.
I.e. In Autlang, they're bad to varying degrees but when you translate them, they seem feeble.
Thus being able to insult some burly and viscious person safely
In Klingon there is something like:
"hab sol Qu'uch" - it is the worst insult in Klingon.
In English, it means 'your mother has a smooth forehead.

RE: autlang
Won't Autlang just alienate you from society even more and cause more ridiculing?

RE: autlang
Look, I can see you all have gone to a lot of care and trouble with this new language but I just don't understand why??? Won't this kind of thing isolate us further from mainstream society? Then again, maybe I'm just the kind of person who isn't very interested in making up new languages. I have lots of fun with the English language already.
It's easier to beg forgiveness than ask permission.

RE: autlang
I've always believed that mental telepathy should supplant spoken language; I know from my own personal experience that it's a genuine phenomenon, and it's an ability that anyone can develop.
It would be a universal form of communication transcending all language barriers, as well as enabling FTL communication with each other over unlimited distances.
It would be a superior form of communication all around; plus the NT's wouldn't even know that we were doing it, so there would be no unwelcome attention from them whenever we implemented it to 'talk' to one another. (Eventually there might come a time when they would 'hear' speech from us, but without our lips moving; that would most certainly strike them as odd. But by then we would probably be dominant anyway.)
It could also double as a defense against NT's, making it possible to exert mind control over them; they would be unable to distinguish their own thoughts from thoughts that had been telepathically implanted in their minds by others, thus influencing their behavior. (An additional tactic could involve the telepathic implantation of frightening hallucinations in their minds in order to drive them into retreat).
As far as a written language was concerned: I think we should go a step higher than phonetic writing, and attempt to devise a system of writing that had its basis purely in mathematics; again, it would be universal, since it would have absolutely no basis in spoken language.
To be sure: not all Aspergians are math whizzes; which is why it would be incumbent upon those among us who are to try and 'dumb down' the same mathematics used to describe physics (classical and quantum) to a sufficient degree as to make it accessible to even the most average individual; in a modified form intended for purposes of everyday reading and writing (it's a possibility that should at least be explored, I think).
I know this sounds like a lot of science fiction; but I believe that we should reach just as high as possible, and attempt to transcend NT civilization in as many ways as possible.

Maybe; but it sure beats the hell out of sitting around making up a whole lot of silly words (which I certainly don't have the time of day for).

RE: autlang
Btw, people, I'm just throwing out ideas here; that's all: just throwing out ideas.
I may get flamed for saying this: but I believe that if we can't come up with something superior to what the NT's have right now: then that practically removes any justification for a separate Aspie civization, and we may as well just go on with our struggle for acceptance within NT society.
Without the element of 'shock and awe,' how could we possibly hope to compete with them?
Call me a latter day Criswell: but I want to see us flitting about the solar system and beyond in flying saucers (or something on that order) while the NT is still struggling to get back to the moon with liquid fueled rockets.
As for the linguistic situation: I think we can do far better than just another spoken language written in just another phonetic alphabet, and that's all that I'm trying to say here.
I know that the intentions of the Autlang people are sincere; but I believe that this isn't really the right course to take.
As an Aspergian: I believe I have as much right as anyone here to voice an opinion about this particular matter.

RE: autlang
Why do you have to have your own language or anything different to live with NT's?
