I'm sure some of you can remember "The Charver Song" I mentioned some time ago, for those of you that don't then it's here
It in effect takes the mickey out of the music they listen to, and most of the stuff they say
(If it wasn't for some guy named Richard Kell, who works for one of the local radio stations where I live, and some radio anorak who seemed to focus mainly on the said station at one point, then we wouldn't have this  )
by the way, this thread is a good idea, thanks Amy

The first song I composed on the guitar was a rather simple little tune called "kill the charvers". So simple it's embarrassing:
Main riff / chorus
A -0-1-3-3-0-1-4-
E -0-1-3-3-0-1-4-
Words: "kill the charvers, kill them all"
other riff (no words):
A -33333333-22222222-
E -11111111-22222222-

I enjoyed that as much as I could. I think I still got the point, even though I didn't understand it all. But, I'm not American. (maybe close enough to some people).

Ah, we used another word for the type in "my day." Fashions have changed, of course, but the gist is still there.
Rant away, folks~!

My mother, who would be 90something if she were still living, insisted that human intellingence had declined during her lifetime. People had gotten a lot stupider since she was young. She also used to complain about, "people who always have to have something to say" , usually utterly idiotic.i'm not sure if stupidity has become more common or just more popular, but there's a lot of it out there. And has anyone noticed that objecting to irresponsible, disruptive, destructive behavior now means, "you think you own the world " and "elitist"?

DW_a_mom: I believe the same general type of person is called many names (chav, charver, towny, ned, spide, white trash, etc etc) in different places.
strangefairy: Your grandmother was wise.

Hee, maybe it's just that the stupid ones have gotten louder and have more opportunities now to get their voices heard!

We also call them yobbos, yobs and ratbags.
If we object to rude, objectionable behaviour, we are "elitist" and "snobbish" but they think they can do anything they want and it's okay.
I blame much of it on the two world wars as many of the "best" young people (especially men) were killed off or injured too badly to have very many children. By "best", I'm saying that they were usually the healthiest.
Plus, we have mass media now that caters to the lowest common denominator in most cases.
It's easier to beg forgiveness than ask permission.
