Re: mel
Can anyone actually taste the difference between coke and pepsi? because i cant.
Usually after 3 litres it they start to taste different. Coke is more sour and pepsi has less ... CO2?

Re: mel
Any soft drink with the word "diet" on the can or bottle usually tastes absolutely foul because of the aspartame sweetener used in them. The flavoured variants of coca cola don't taste too bad though
In short, "diet" = yuk

With all the multiflavored COFFEES around these days, I joyously anticipate  the debut of vanilla hazelnut pumpkin apple spice cappuccino cola! You know SOMEBODY will think of it!
Personally I like things to taste like their original selves. Coffee and cola should taste like coffee and cola!
Otherwise I get all CONFUSED.

Pepse is just plain nasty, and much too sweet. I'll take Coke over it any day if given the chance.
Diet soda is delicious. However, what I can't stand is Caffeine-Free Coke/Pepsi. Caffeine-Free and Diet is the worst.
Mug root beer is possibly the worst root beer out there.
All soft drinks are potable; some are just more potable than others.

Pepsi is sweeter, and coke more fizzy. I don't really have a preference of one over the other.

Seconded. Aspartame is foul. It has a nasty aftertaste that I can't stand especially much of.
Here "diet"-things are known as "light"-things, by the way. And new light-stuff appear rapidly. I had the misfortune of ending up having to use light-ketchup once, recently.

I must go slightly off-topic & onto another worthless "lite" food: fat-free margarine, which I tried out on my frozen chicken-patty-and-mashed-potato dinner...the damn stuff didn't melt even in the microwave! All I could do was break it into smaller BEADS! If I ever have to fly a spaceship to the sun, I will coat the ship with this stuff & be perfectly safe. As food, it is good for absolutely nothing.
But I do like artificially sweetened colas! Hooray for aftertaste.

Coke sucks, you suck, everyone sucks apart from me, everyone elses opinion is wrong too.
Trolls need to apply in writing. Please pick up an application form at the office.
I took it as a joke. Afterall, this is the timeout section.
Diet cherry coke is the most evil drink ever.
I hate the taste of "light"/"diet"-stuff sweeteners, so far without a single exception.
Aspartame leaves a vile aftertaste in my mouth, everytime I've drank anything containing it I've gotten meds flashbacks. Same with splenda, only it reminds me a lot more of when my dog got sick and everything she ate made her vomit (she's fine today).
AS rootbeer is my favorite drink, I have resolutely refused to drink any diet version of it. And then last summer I went to a book store who sold it. As they only had one variety of rootbeer, I asumed it was safe, until I got outside and actually opened it. I sprayed it all over the pavement.
Waste of soda, waste of money. Waste of glass for the stupid bottle. Just the wrongness of it all

I don't like soda; it make my teeth feel like they are dissolving.

And can ANYONE explain to me the point of VANILLA Coke?! I mean, vanilla is wonderful in the right places, but it's been done to death as a household fragrance (those candles!), and now, vanilla COKE? I can't even bring myself to taste it because it's just plain wrong!
In the early part of the 20th century, soda fountains used to make the soft drinks themselves (assemble them?) by mixing soda water with concentrated syrups, yielding Coca-cola, Dr. Pepper, etc. After the sods jerk would mix up someone's soda, he would add other flavorings if the customer wanted them--like cherry flavor, or vanilla extract. I think that Vanilla and Cherry Coke are attempts to duplicate that archaic practice--although I have heard that they can't match the taste of the original. There is a burger joint somewhere in Santa Fe, where I live, that makes old-fashioned soda fountain cokes, but I can't tell you how they taste because I don't consume refined sugar, or only very rarely.

This is wandering a bit, but has anyone ever tried rootbeer with cherry syrup in it? I used to get it at a bookstore I went to.

I'm surprised no-one's mentioned Irn-Bru yet. :gag:
As the player's breath warms the fipple the tone clears.
It is time to consider how Domenico Scarlatti
condensed so much music into so few bars
with never a crabbed turn or congested cadence,
never a boast or a see-here; and stars and lakes
echo him and the copse drums out his measure,
snow peaks are lifted up in moonlight and twilight
and the sun rises on an acknowledged land.
Basil Bunting, Briggflatts
