getting a diagnosis

hey, i was wondering if getting tested for aspergers would be a benefit or not, im sure i have aspergers, but not enough to cause any serious problems, although it may give me peace of mind to know why i am the way i am, mostly i feel like i dont fit in anywhere.

Unless you feel that you'd benefit from a particular support service which requires diagnosis, I don't see any point in seeking a diagnosis.

As for peace of mind, perhaps you could judge for yourself whether oor not you are on the spectrum...

Read the link that Icarus75 just posted, and remember that you know best how you would react to a positive or negative diagnosis, and how you are reacting right now. The decision to get tested or not is yours.

yeah, the only reason i feel a diagnosis might be helpful is so i can stop doubting my judgement, i go through times where i just feel im being stupid or paranoid, but then others i feel i do actually have aspergers. its annoying, i feel kind of like a hypochondriac for thinking i have it and i keep being obsessed with aspergers itself.

Iwas thinking that if i got a test that told me one way or the other i can stop thinking about it.

I suggest you get the diagnosis. I don't trust self diagnosis. I know a lot of people who "Self diagnose" their Aspergers and get it wrong. You really do need a psychiatrist to help you.

If you don't go for an official dx, then stick around, get to know people, read aspie blogs...become really familiar with it all. If anything, it will help you increase understanding of yourself, regardless whether you feel you are probably aspie or not. And if you're not, then maybe we win over an ally Big Grin

But, if you still lack peace of mind and you're willing to risk it, then get a dx.
