Posting this just to inspire some controversy and discussion in this new section.

Note that i've never played Mass Effect.

I've never played anything in either series, which gives me an idea for this thread. How would you explain Assassin's Creed, or Mass Effect, to a layman? (Think of this exercise as an advertisement.)

Assassin's Creed is based on the concept of genetic memory being used to explore an ancient secret war between 2 groups - the real-life hashassin (Assassins) and Templars, fighting to prevent the Templars from getting hold of more "pieces of eden" - artifacts from before human history which have the power to control men's minds.

In terms of gameplay, AC is "social stealth", hiding in crowds and planning out your kills with strategy.

As for Mass Effect, dunno.

I agree that Assassins Creed is better, but I've only played the first Mass Effect. I'll also note that I've never really been a huge fan of shooters.

Interesting. Doesn't sound like my cup of tea (I'm mostly interested in traditional RPGs), but thank you for taking the time to write this. You seem very enthusiastic about this subject. I wish I could say I was enthusiastic about anything in my old age.

Can't we both agree that both series are awesome? And instead fight against series are a in short shite like Call of Duty and Battlefield.
Modern Warfare 3, more like money waster three if you ask me.

@Yuji - Mass Effect is mainly about a large synthetic species known as the Repears who in short wipe out all sentient life in the galaxy every 50 thousand years. You are Commander Shepherd and you must in the first game fight against a rogue Specter named Saren as he attempts to find the conduit, a device that will allow the return of the Reapers.

In the second game you fight against the Collectors, a strange race once assumed to be legend. They are now addicting entire human colonies for the Reapers. Fighting along with Cerberus a pro-human organization. You have to recruit a team to "take the fight to the Collectors" in a suicide mission.

In the third game, the Reapers invade the entire galaxy, staring with Earth. You have to unite an entire galaxy to even stand a chance of defeating them and of course there is also the Crucible, a powerful weapon capable of destroying the Reapers. Cerberus, now "officially the bad guys" are searing for it as they seek to control the Reapers.

Along the way, you strike up romances, bromances and in the second game each character has a loyalty mission.

Yeah, that's the series in a nutshell and in my opinion is better than Assassins Creed, but then again I've only played the first game.

Can you tell me what that word in bold is?

Calling it a simple shooter would be a bit of an insult. While having third person shooter elements, the series focuses upon RPG most of the time.

I didn't call it a simple shooter. I called it a shooter. That doesn't exclude shooters with RPG elements.

How about RPGs with shooter elements?

It's a science-fiction RPG with a third person shooter combat design.

And it's better than Assassins Creed
