New Super Mario Bros.
Having recently completed New Super Mario Bros. 2 (Nintendo 3DS), I'm curious as to which game in the New Super Mario Bros. franchise is the most popular.
My favourite game in the franchise has to be New Super Mario Bros. Wii because has long, detailed, action-packed levels and it takes advantage of the Wii's motion controls without messing with the Mario formula too much.
The original DS game was undeniably excellent, but generally, it was quite easy.
Finally, New Super Mario Bros. 2 was a platformer with fantastic gameplay, but the game recycled too much from New Super Mario Bros. Wii, including music and character models. Some of the levels were rather short too. The game kind of feels like a stop-gap. A great one, but a stop-gap nonetheless.
So, which of the three games did you enjoy the most?

I have not really liked any Mario games since Mario 3 on the old NES.

Super Marip Bros. 3 is one of the greatest games of all time. I consider it to be the true sequel to the original Super Mario Bros. The gameplay, the music are fantastic, and although the graphics are rather primitive, they still have a simplistic charm to them.
Why didn't you like the Mario games that followed?

I do not have a lot of fast twitch dexterity in my hands, so I dislike competitive games in general and in particular I dislike racing games.
So all the mario cart and mario party games did not have much to offer for me. Also, in general the graphics and sounds for the nintendo systems have gotten way too cartoony for my tastes.

For some reason, the only thing I don't like about the New Super Mario Bros. is you can't save until you beat a castle. Also if you die, you have to get the coin again because it doesn't save it. I have lot of the Mario games pretty much.

I too found this to be very annoying and inconvenient. I think it may have been an attempt to replicate the good ol' days before save features existed.
In New Super Mario Bros. 2, the "quick save" feature is available from the beginning of the game.

There's a Nintendo DS emulator called DesmuME that would make playing the New Super Mario Bro's a lot easier, because you can save the game at any point and replay levels at the saved point as well ....
Although it sucks playing any game console emulator with your computer keyboard, you can configure it to recognize a usb game pad .... :/
