Wayland 1.0 Released, Not yet ready to replace X11

From this article at Slashdot

""After being talked about for four years, Wayland 1.0 was released today. The Wayland 1.0 release doesn't mark it yet as being ready for Linux desktop usage but just being API/protocol stable for future expansion. Wayland will now maintain backwards compatibility going forward, but how much longer will it take to replace X11 on the Linux desktop? Quite a while seems likely.""

Great so I'm going to have to get use to this new Wayland graphic's server one of these days?... That's nice! I wish it wasn't replacing the X server because I love the logo

As opossed to this

I know I shouldn't be judging Wayland before I use it, but I'm worried about it being compatible with my desktop computer....

But I swear to God if Wayland fucks up my Desktop computer I'm definitely migrating to one of the opened versions of BSD!

The first I've heard of Wayland was when I was watching a Youtube video on why Linux sucks and how we could improve it and the lead speaker was talking about improving the graphics because some of the developers were bitching about it...

*sigh* I just hope Wayland doesn't *** up my Desktop is all I got to say for now ..... What do you guys think ?

Yeah, I agree, this wayland logo is trash.

I don't get the bitching about how Linux sucks thing.  If you are capable of explaining why is sucks, doesn't that mean you're capable of improving it?  It is open-source, afterall.

Now, I'll complain about my experience with a particular distribution, but I don't see how you can say linux itself sucks.  I mean, look at it.  Perhaps you could say nasty things about the kernel, though I wouldn't know enough about it to do so, but so far as I do know, the X-window system is a separate, just very common, part of linux OS's.

By the way, I have no problem with Linux graphics, though most of my games are from the last milennium, so there really wouldn't be much of a problem any way.

X11 is going to be around for a long time, don't worry - New stuff is constantly proposed, but X always wins in the end. If however you do use Wayland, they say it's backwards compatible so as long as the hardware support is there (LOL - as if they can get all the drivers Xorg has) give it a shot.

Technically speaking linux is JUST the kernel.
