Looking For a Friend on AFF

Hi there. On the internet, I'm known as Curiotical. I'm a 14 year old male Aspie and I'd really like to make an Autistic/Aspie friend online. My special interest is Nintendo; especially Super Mario. I'd also be happy to discuss any issues related to Autism/Asperger's

I tried to befriend someone on Wrong Planet, but she suddenly stopped answering my PMs for no obvious reason, and it was quite hurtful.

So, if anyone wants to get to know me, feel free to PM me or post here.
Smile

Well I'd be your friend. I'm 32 so I don't know if that'd put you off or anything. Welcome. Smile

I have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it will be with a knife.

If I offended you, please let me know via pm. I tend to do it without realizing it. I can be clueless as to how my humor comes across. Please be nice about it.

RE: Looking For a Friend on AFF

Welcome.

So, how did you get interested in super mario?

Are you interested in the whole mario franchise or just the original game that was packaged with duck hunt that came with the NES consoles?

About the girl:
Also try not to worry about the girl not replying- I have had similar happen to me.  She just quit talking, and I could not figure out why.  Then I was left imagining various scenarios to try to explain to myself why she has not replied and gradually getting confused/offended/upset by the lack of response.

It really sucks, but try to avoid sending her more and more messages asking why she has not responded to messages.  It will likely just piss her off.

No, that wouldn't put me off being a friend to you. Smile

When I was six, my Aunt gave her old NES to my Mum along with Super Mario Bros. and it's two sequels. I've had numerous special interests since then, but I always end up going back to Mario!

I am interested in the whole Mario franchise, but I have also played the three original games on my NES.

Interesting coincidence.  Today I thought of you and thus I decided to wear my one and only mario related shirt when I went to the dentist.

At the dentist's office, there as an obviously (at least to me) aspie boy in the waiting room with his mom.

He was trying to dismantle an Iphone, which amused me, so I commented that I always liked taking things apart when I was a kid at which point he noticed my mario shirt and commented that he likes mario.

Speaking to both him and his mom I mentioned that I recently met someone with HFA/AS who is very, very into mario (referring to you).

The mom was kind of surprised and nodded at the boy said, "Yeah, he has that too"
I replied, "Yeah I know."
She gives me a strange look and asks, "How could you possibly know that?"
I say, "Because I have it too.  It was obvious to me from the moment I saw him, he may as well have had a neon sign pointing at him."

At which point the mom started ignoring me (probably uncomfortable) and the kid and I had a great talk about the relative merits of all the various mario games until his sister's appointment was done and they left.

Cheers to you for giving me the idea to wear my mario shirt it led to an interesting visit to the dentist.

Cool! Is this the first time you've met another Autistic/Aspie in the "real world"?

It is the 2nd time that I can say with certainty.  The other was a interesting aspie girl that is no longer talking to me for unknown reasons.  That experience is what I based my earlier advice to you off of.

It is also very likely that I have known many aspies in the past when I used to work on nuclear reactors, but it was before I even knew what an aspie was so I did not recognize them as such.

I would really like to meet more in my area, particularly cute aspie girls Wink

I guess I am in a unique position, then. I attend a support group for young people on the spectrum. I have made a few close friends from there.

RE: Looking For a Friend on AFF

Hey I wouldn't mind being your friend. I know how it feels when people stop responding to you. Could she have not had anything else to say? It's possible. I always consider that but yet if I ask a question in it and they didn't respond, then I think they are ignoring me. I try to consider the fact they are busy but if they never answer, then I think they dumped me.

The girl couldn't possibly have ran out of things to say, as the last PM I sent to her before she bagan to ignore me contained several questions about our common special interest. I didn't say anything inappropriate to her, she just "dumped" me.

Thank you for responding! Smile

Unfortunately, I have this curse of making new friends and either I start offending them or they start getting annoyed the more and more they get to know me ...:/

RE: Looking For a Friend on AFF

I could usually tell when I had an Aspie kid in my classroom.  There really is a difference in how we look at the world and it shows.  For the record, I LOVE Mario, and I'm in my fifties!  I have a Mario sun-hat that I used to always wear in the playground of my classes, the kids seemed to think that was pretty cool, one of their teachers who knew as much about Mario as they did and could talk about the various games with them.  I've still got the hat, plus a couple of Mario figurines.  My husband thinks I was collecting and getting interested in it for the sake of my preschool class, but it really was for me!  I also love pokemon.

Hey, it's fine. I understand that we Aspies tend to inadvertently offend people with our humour. Because of this, I always politely tell them that what they have said is offensive and I never take it seriously.

That is so cool Smile

I bet you made that kid's day.  My kids love meeting other aspies.

Middle once took apart an alarm clock to see how it works.  When he couldn't get it back together, he covered it in band-aids.  According to his then 4 year old mind, band-aids fixed everything.

Warning:  Aspie may spontaneously morph into a raging pterodactyl.
