A friend just gave this to me and my kids have been reading it. My middle child just came through and ticked off all the pages that apply to him

That's a cute book, I've perused it at the store.

The kid who says "all cats have aspergers".... freaks me out a little bit. He is so much like my son, in looks and mannerisms, and style of speaking.

Today:

Middle - Mom, do you know why I am different from everyone else?  

(Oh God, here we go, I'm steeling myself for yet another explanation of AS and why it isn't a bad kind of difference, hoping desperately that this isn't coming from something someone said to hurt him...)

Me, trying to be calm - No, tell me why you are different from everyone else.

Middle - Because other people are cute, but I'm really, REALLY cute!  

Little stinker   It is dangerous when they know they're adorable.  They use it to their advantage.

Middle - Mom, do you know why I am different from everyone else?

Perhaps.  I hadn't thought about it that way.  

It is a scary question - not in giving an answer, but in having to give an answer because a child feels sad, confused, or excluded.
