RE: It is said that in Ulthar, which lies beyond the river Skaal, no man may kill a cat

HP Lovecraft Wrote:
It is said that in Ulthar, which lies beyond the river Skai, no man may kill a cat; and this I can verily believe as I gaze upon him who sitteth purring before the fire. For the cat is cryptic, and close to strange things which men cannot see. He is the soul of antique Aegyptus, and bearer of tales from forgotten cities in Meroe and Ophir. He is the kin of the jungle’s lords, and heir to the secrets of hoary and sinister Africa. The Sphinx is his cousin, and he speaks her language; but he is more ancient than the Sphinx, and remembers that which she hath forgotten.

Anyone who tries to kill a dog...

You fuc* with a dog, you fuc* with me. And you do not want to fuc* with me.

I've killed dragons with my bare hands, destroyed an entire Klingon fleet using one small ship and killed a reaper-hybrid using nothing more than a Collector Particle beam.

You do not want to mess with me.

Oh, and knocked out the entire Chicago police department.

You edited this and added some badass.

But do you live in Ulthar?

I hope not. It doesn't sound like a very nice place to live...

But no man may kill a cat there.

Oh, maybe so. It does sound quite nice. Unless the cats are evil.

It's heavily implied that if you kill a cat in Ulthar, the remaining cats will eat you.

Jesus, and cats were creepy enough.

Quick question, what happens if you kill all of the cats?

Well, the reason they'll eat you is because of a gypsy curse on any man who kills a cat in Ulthar, presumably killing all of the cats would lead to an even worse fate.

As for being creepy, this is from the same author who gave us Cthulhu - what do you expect?

I've been getting into a lot of lovecraftian stuff lately, been using it as inspirational material for my own writing, wherein the old ones have technology that is so advanced it is actually an affront to human reason and an abomination against natural law which will ultimately lead to mass insanity upon its existence being revealed.

I've only read a few Lovecraftian stories and needless to say, they are all creepy.

And as for Cthulhu...Well I found this a while back

Love it!

Go to poetry and creative writing and read my thread "First cycle" for more sci-fi orientated lovecraftian horror.
