Sad  Wahh I want to see Home Alone and Home Alone 2 right now...

Yeah I miss watching them on VHS and lately I've been wanted to recapture that feeling I get whenever I see the movies, well 1 & 2 but not 3 or 4....

Have you ever watched a movie like a bazillion times to the point of where you get burnt out on them but a few or more years later you suddenly get the urge to watch them again ? ...

well thank God Ghostbusters was showing on NetFlix there a while ago , but I watched my fill and now want to watch Home Alone and Home Alone 2: Lost in New York City. But I'd prefer to watch those two around December rather than October.

But this brings me to another problem, NetFlix doesn't really have a good selection of movies and television shows. I want to check out Hulu plus but would like someone's opinion on it before I get signed up for it...

Why is life so cruel ? I demand to watch Home Alone and Home Alone 2! .... Sad

There's a fourth one?  Didn't they learn anything from the third one?

I tried to get netflix running in linux once, but it wanted me to install the .net framework.  I might've gotten it running in wine, but since it's a compatibility layer that I don't need to get on the internet, I decided not to bother.  Anyway, wine makes the internet load slower.

I actually didn't know that there was a forth one until I saw a box-set titled "the home alone collection" and there were four.
In short, I didn't buy it. I did however get "The Jurassic Park collection" but the forth one on it was special features.

I was thinking of getting Netflix for my Xbox but from what you've said I don't think I will now...

I'd need money for that and even though I have a YouTube video downloading extension for Firefox, the site can't show every movie due to movie companies complaining over BS that a video hosting site broken copyrighted laws by hosting their movie...

Watch the Nostalgia's top 11 Simpson's episode because Fox complained and forced the critic to remove the episode for the #1 spot .... Sad

I guess I should keep an eye open for both movies on VHS since I still watch old school movies on video cassette, which is slowly becoming extinct thanks to DVD's ....

Well I guess I'll just have to wait till it comes on Netflix or if I find the first two movies on VHS since NBC Universal are being little pricks about it to YouTube.... :/

Hulu Plus is not worth the money. They occasionally have good things, but about the only good thing with them is if you want to watch the recently aired season of a popular show, like "Law & Order: SVU", they'll have it while Netflix doesn't. But the biggest issue is even if you have a paid subscription, you don't get to have an option to skip the damn commercials. I don't know how many times I got stuck with commercials for women's products and had a permanent blush for a few minutes.

The only reason I would do Hulu Plus is because they have 'The Pretender' on there, but if I really want to watch that, I can just order it off Amazon.

Your best bet is either buy the Home Alone DVDs or buy a VCR and get the VHS's. You can still find them if you have a store that buys/sells/trades used video games, books, and movies. I don't mean big chains like Hastings; where I live there's this place called Fun Unlimited, and it even sells arcade games if you have enough to buy it. I don't think Hulu Plus even has Home Alone or HA2.

Just my 2 cents.

I agree.  I get so fed up with built-in obsolescence in technology.  I just wish they'd stopped at VHS.  DVD is a pain.  Every couple of decades everything changes and you've got to buy all the new hardware to run it on, and get left with memories you can no longer play!  It's frustrating.

I dislike how easily DVD's are ruined just by a mere freaking scratch on them and the annoying, forever looping, DVD title menu animation....

Hell VHS tapes last a lot longer than DVD's because I have an original VHS of Die Hard from 1988! ...

By the way I've been meaning to do this but I want to record movies from Netflix through a VCR because I used to with every Nintendo system that had those colored cords for audio/video and r audio input through a television set but this time with a  Nintendo Wii system ...

Mario, Amazon does have them on VHS, though just from individual sellers. Simply do a search for 'Home Alone' in Movies and TV, then select "VHS" under format. Right now you can get a copy of either one for roughly five dollars (minus shipping and handling). Here's the link:

RE: Wahh I want to see Home Alone and Home Alone 2 right now...

I was thinking the other day: you rarely see the video shops that proliferated through the 80's into such a ubiquitous presence for the next thirty years.  The last surviving one we had in Gungahlin closed last year, and the space has now been taken over by a hairdressers.  There is still a way to hire DVDs however.  A dispensing machine sits outside the hairdressers filled with a selection of DVDS and you insert five dollars into the slot and punch in which DVD you want to hire.  I have no idea how you go about returning them after you've watched them, or indeed how they can be chased up if you don't return them.  Unless of course it's not money they're inserting but credit cards, I suppose they can be traced that way.  Seems clumsy to me.
Alison  (who is surprised that she'd ever regard video shops with nostalgia... )

RE: Wahh I want to see Home Alone and Home Alone 2 right now...

I was obsessed with those two when I was eight. I have the first one on DVD and the second one on VHS. The 4th one sucks. What happened to Jeff and Linnie? Why was Kevin only nine when he was ten in the second one? Was the 4th one supposed to be pre sequel to the 2nd one? If I remember correctly his parents  decided to get back together at the end of the movie. But due to his two siblings not existing, it ruined the movie for me. Also where was Harry? Another thing that ruined the movie.

The third one was okay despite the bad ratings it got.
How do VHS tapes last longer? I have had my DVDs for years and years and they are still good. From my experience with VHS tapes, sometimes the player eats them, the film gets all screwed up so parts of the movie has white lines running through it due to that part of the film being eaten. Plus they wear out if you watch them too much. I let my aspie mate borrow our Star Wars movies and he wore them out within a year. So his parents had to re purchase them when they brought the movies back to us. He  wore them out by watching parts over and over so he kept on rewinding it to re watch that part again.  At least with a DVD, you don't have to worry about the movie being eaten or getting worn out unless you scratch it or toss the disc around and not taking care of it.
