Has anybody encountered or heard of Peter Aldous, MP whom I read something about getting involved with the employment of autistic people. Click here to read the article.

Are there any real life autistic people or friends, spouses, family etc who have actually experienced and can give some information about this, or this just another self-publicising scam by another MP?

Please can you tell me if you know of anyone freelance or self-employed individual people who can provide independent/freelance legal advocacy (or citizens advocacy) for disabled people e.g. autistic / mental health problems and aged 50 in the Norfolk / East Anglia area (UK) and if not please advise who can. Could these people have checkable references from an actual person who has used their services please?

By advocacy, a person who has more power than a private citizen i.e. their requests and actions won't simply be ignored and fobbed off. Are there any kinds of advocates who have the power to be heard and to have their requests for information to be read properly and actually dealt with inside a time limit without actually having to get the law involved? If I do have to get legal help (and if I'm entitled to it) could your firm help?.

Please do not tell me about any organisations for the disabled, local or national, whether funded or voluntary etc.[/i]

What are his motives?  Maybe he does really want to find out the truth and not just knock around some fancy statistics in a report.

I find that some agencies in Canada do train or counsel people with disability to get work.  I would like to know real percentages of people with disability who were really helped into real jobs.

There's an error in the article. It's businesses with FEWER THAN 49 employees who won't pay, not those with more than 49, as it says.

If you or anyone else, anywhere in the world,know of anyoneanywhere, any disability, who has really been helped into any real job,I would be fascinated to contact them.I have run into TWO in nearly thirteen years,not sure of percentage there- lousy at maths.
One of them is super intelligent - speaks several languages, maths genius etc and lucky enough to get the one paid position (in an autism organisaTION)where people are tolerant and knowledgeable about his condition and he doesn't have to interact a lot, although his social skills and persona disguise the trouble perfectly so he can pass as NT
if needed. I cannot do any of that and at 50+ few people are employed anyway.The other is young (teenaged/early 20s) when given the van driving job, he had also been working as a van driver before this and, I suspect could have found himself work again without being"helped" into his present job. These are both A.S. in the UK but have not heard of any others from elsewhere.
Your faith in this MP is touching - but then you don't live in the UK.

That wouldn't surprise me. This is why I only want replies/info from other AS people or those who know them.You simply can't believe any of this stuff unless/if someone like yourself checks it up.Autism orgs don't, not in the UK at least, and disabled groups(physical disabilities) don't deal with this either - they have their own serious issues at present.
