RE: [ASAN] Annual Gala!

To be honest, this is an odd fundraiser.  I think a lot of people with AS dread formal social functions like this.  I know I do.

I don't mean to knock a fundraising activity, particularly for ASAN.  I'm sure a lot of time and effort went into it.  Best of luck.

It would be good for NT educators, doctors, family members, etc.

Perhaps, if ASAN were not a self-advocacy organization.

I'm not coming down on the event, heck I might go, it just seems odd.

I understand why this seems an odd fundraiser.
Yet, last year's fundraiser was a great success:

Skip the first article and scroll to the second article, "ASAN’s 5-Year Anniversary Fundraiser".
The photographs above the article are from last year's fundraiser.
The article links to, among others, a video of Ari's speech at last year's fundraiser:

RE: [ASAN] Annual Gala!

I've attended autism-related parties before. Granted, they weren't entirely attended by autistics, but most of the people there were on the spectrum. It always seems to work. I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that the social rules are a little different when the predominating neurotype is different.
