This just in - scrambling TV guides somehow stops piracy

I got BBC HD setup finally (yay!) only to notice that the famous encryption is in fact just the EPG (Electronic Programme Guide) data being scrambled.

If you try to view the EPG data without decrypting it, you just get a load of garbage, apparently this is to prevent piracy.

So, what exactly stops me from recording shows by manually setting the time and then uploading them? This measure seems completely and utterly pointless.

Or I can record the raw MPEG stream off the air onto my harddrive.
