Family Barred From Plane Due To Teen’s Down Syndrome

The Vanderhorsts say they have flown many times before with their son, but this was the first time they planned to fly first class. They believe that the airline did not want to seat someone with Down syndrome in the upgraded cabin.

Sounds like a snobby elitist of a pilot--
how AWFUL!!
I hate hearing stuff like this- but thanks for sharing... need to be reminded how stupid/ignorant and wrose some people still are. Need to shine a light on intolerance like this.

The airline contends that Bede was “excitable, running around and not acclimated to the environment,” claims that the family denies.
If true, that would be a reason to deny the flight - that could be very dangerous.

At first I expected it to be Rian air, but I'd rather have people who really don't give a flying f*** no pun intended, as this is a serious situation than people who are in short, well...
People like this. Then again I'm not surprised that something like this happened. The world cannot disgust me enough to feel surprise about a situation it has caused.
The last thing that surprised me in a bad way about the world was when that guy was denied a heart transplant...

I am SURE the kid was fine - he fleis more than almost anybody - "flown dozens of times" AND I saw the video of him sitting there waiting AND - the only difference was that it was first class./.. come on - do not they have locking doors to the pilots?
RE: Family Barred From Plane Due To Teen’s Down Syndrome
If they don't have locking cockpit doors, they certainly should! It's just too obvious a thing not to have.
Also, security personnel attempted to censor the video being taken by the family, meaning if there was any sort of exculpatory evidence in favor of the airline they themselves refused its collection.

True. There was an incident similar (in ethics, at least) in my parent's village pub.
There's an LFA kid in the village who was in there with his mother. She wouldn't let him have something and he went absolutely beserk. When the barmaid (who he knew well) tried to calm him down he bit her on the arm and drew blood. Now he's barred from the place.
Some people have said that's unfair and he's being discriminated against because he's autistic. That's rubbish. There's a safety issue here. You simply can't expose your staff and customers to potentially dangerous situations and tell them they have to put up with it or it's discrimination. People have the right to a safe environment.
I am the cat who walks by himself, and all places are alike to me.

Bingo
In the example you gave, if an NT kid wouldn't be allowed to behave like that either, then it's not discrimination.

Well, you should make allowances fro behaviour caused by neurological atypsis, disability, mental health issues, etc. But that doesn't extend to jeopardizing people's safety.

TOTALLY besdies the point - the kid in question - on topic - was acting fine... AND many kids have moemtns while ON the plane where they are not "acclimated" - I think t\many times the standarads are HIGHER for those with differences - as in the loud nosiy college kid fooling around/laughing loudly/pushing his buddies or an adult who is on the phone (noisily yelling for "business" purposes) makes much more noise, more times than not - people just have a a higher tolerance when they are used to that type of noise.
whatveer-- i believe he was discriminated against and his rights were violated - but that is just MY opinion.
RE: Family Barred From Plane Due To Teen’s Down Syndrome
I read another article. The kid was running around creating havoc in the terminal demonstrating what behaviour would be like on the plane.
Actually I am tired of parents making excuses for their lack of control and parenting skills. They act as if their child can do no wrong and everyone else is at fault.
