Leap Motion Technology

Idk if this was posted already. Sorry it it is a repost.
I recently preordered a Leap Motion which utilizes your hand movements not unlike in Minority Report.
Say goodbye to your mouse and keyboard.

Leap represents an entirely new way to interact with your computers. It’s more accurate than a mouse, as reliable as a keyboard and more sensitive than a touchscreen.  For the first time, you can control a computer in three dimensions with your natural hand and finger movements.

This isn’t a game system that roughly maps your hand movements.  The Leap technology is 200 times more accurate than anything else on the market — at any price point. Just about the size of a flash drive, the Leap can distinguish your individual fingers and track your movements down to a 1/100th of a millimeter.

This is like day one of the mouse.  Except, no one needs an instruction manual for their hands.

It will retail for $69.99

If I offended you, please let me know via pm. I tend to do it without realizing it. I can be clueless as to how my humor comes across. Please be nice about it.

RE: Leap Motion Technology

that's cool. I wonder about the benefit or not to RSI/OOS. I find sitting at a computer all day whacks my body bad, neck, shoulder eyes. It looks like Leap might help that by calling for some movement. Let us know how ya like it when you get it Duckie.

RE: Leap Motion Technology

The version you pick up in stores will never be as cool as what this sounds like.  Remember when touch screens were first being sold?  Now everybody has them, and they just don't compare to keyboard and mouse.

I'm saying this as I use a computer that has a "mousepad" (you know, the kind you drag your finger around) from which touch technology could probably learn a few things.  But I've never met a touchscreen that didn't frustrate me.  The mousepads on the laptops I use have always been excellent, despite generally being of advanced age.

Oh, but the newness of touchscreens is so exciting so nobody notices that there haven't been any noticeable improvements in it since the nineties when they first became cool.

I suspect that once this becomes cools, its quality will degenerate to an amazing degree, and touchscreens will become a reasonable replacement for mouse/keyboard.

However, to me, the single best advantage to a mouse and keyboard is the ability to feel what is going to come out, without having to look at it at all times.  There will be no touch-typing on a touchscreen or on this wavey motion thing.  You'll have to see where you are going.
