i've found i have a real interest in this lately... what im talking about is particularly bizarre performances by bands, or whatever, that have been recorded, that for whatever reason are different to the average show that these bands put on. this is a personal favourite of mine from 2001, courtesy of deftones, one of my favourite bands ever...
for context, the singer was exceptionally drunk, and, according to an interview, injured his finger, then in the rush to get onstage, was mistaken for a trespasser and thus had the crap beaten out of him by security not long before they performed. needless to say this mixture resulted in an extremely bizarre performance, in which the singer can at first barely keep time with his bandmates, and talks nonesense continuously throughout instrumental sections and between songs, mostly insults directed towards people who attended. they were cut off halfway through the set due to the singer's behaviour and that they were late getting onstage.
sadly (perhaps) this is audio only, professionally recorded at least, no video accounts are reported to exist, and i say that because apparently at one point during the first song he dropped his trousers and underwear, and the pictures on the videos (sort of) support this. from what i gather, objects were thrown at them throughout the performance.. personal highlights are chino's "thanks, i needed that" retort to something in my own summer, and the sex noises he performs during "korea". regardless, i think this was awesome, for me, gigs are supposed to be a bit crazy and a bit different. will let you all be the judge though...
haha, that's awesome.
there was one of limp bizkit that went eerily similarly to how the deftones one i mentioned went, in 2004 i think... not sure if fred had just been beaten up when he went onstage but still, will try and dig that up.
a lot of people were angry with the whole deftones incident, but having listened to it a good many times and seen the pictures, i think it was amazing, gigs are supposed to be a bit crazy, no one wants to watch people just standing there.

Wow, from what I've read on WoodStock 99, it looks like it was an epic fail... I think it lacked the pot from the original 1969 WoodStock Festival which kept everyone mellowed out.
I mean the violence from Woodstock 99 couldn't possible be due to the violent music ?
ohh yess woodstock '99, with fred durst attempting to surf the crowd on a bit of plywood, good ***... the 2004 limp bizkit incident i referred to was actually the summer sanitarium tour (coincidentally also featuring deftones) in 2003 in chicago, which can be found in audio form on youtube and was reported on here... lots of crowd baiting and talking general crap during instrumental breaks. http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1474912...tage.jhtml

Didn't the guy who sang "come on Irene" did performances in panties on stage during the mid 80's or something ? I could be thinking of something else here, but I think I heard this from some T.v. show... :/
from the interview i heard, it was more the fact that he was late and had to run to get to the stage, and was mistaken for someone who'd jumped the barrier, as to why he got beaten up.
as for getting drunk before going on... i think for some bands/artists, particularly in certain eras, being drunk or high or both was the normal thing to be when playing gigs, whether for better or worse. then there's the case of those that are or were completely addicted... just look at the last concert amy winehouse ever did, that's as tragic a tale as any.

Come on Eileen ? No wonder people had been laughing at me every time I sang it... lol
I've seen pretty bizarre and disturbing things before like this live performance of this black metal band called Carpathian Forest, where they have these old Norwegian women (over weight and OLD!) on stage in panties and this freakish huge looking bassist who .... *shivers* ... Yeah this was a YouTube video and I regret watching even one minute of it...
Cant say I am completely straight when onstage, but I do have control
yeah, the mixture of the booze and the beating didn't do him many favours. i think most bands have embarrassing concerts like this one in their histories due to one or more members being a bit too inebriated, hah...
