Hello There, Guest! (Login — Register)
I was rejected by one of them, then the second one shut down.
The third one is AWESOME!! I just did my icebreaker and everyone loved it; they laughed so hard. And yep, it was about me and Jack, though just funny stuff about us, like when he met me and we sneaked over the border.
My second speech, American Auschwitz, is about the Judge Rotenberg Center. I'll post it here when I'm done for suggestions. It can't be longer than 7 minutes. There's so much information to convey! I hope I don't have to slash anything from my lists I want to read (I have 2-- the list of punishments at the JRC and the list of terrible reasons for them).
My third speech will be about airport security, called Why Should I Fly?
Tell your Toastmasters stories here! I'm excited about the party we're having... tons of desserts, speeches, etc. I'm just nervous about being the timer; if there's no instruction sheet I'll have to ask for one! Next time I'll try and sign up to be the Table Topics master. I know what topic I'll choose, it'll be hilarious. I'll take 4 newbies, tell them they're the sergeant at arms, the toastmaster, the chairman and the general evaluator, and make them do a Toastmasters meeting (or part of one) together... it will be hilarious and help all of us with our leadership skills!
There's also the meeting after the meetin where everyone is invited the the pub, and everyone is so nice!!

I can't believe public speaking is my new obsession. I guess cuz this is an international club so it's exciting, and because I get to show off my knowledge of certain obsesssions of mine.

I do a lot of public speaking anyway, work-wise, and I do enjoy it, so it would be nice to do it more socially, get some tips for improvement, and get to meet new people. Yeah, sounds good!
I'll let you know how I get on.
We are all made in God's image! Celebrate our diversity of gifts!

Toastmasters is an international public speaking club that also teaches you how to lead the club. Every member does at least one speech every meeting, and there are contests between factions with prizes and ribbons given out for hte best speakers and evaluators. I never thought it would be this much fun; it's my new obsession!
Marcia: Wow!

I've been away from the Aspies for Freedom site for awhile, but when my Google Alert brought me here about Toastmasters I just had to log back in and comment.
Toastmasters is a great group but realize that every club has its own personality. Some are business oriented and act accordingly. Others are community based and you'll encounter a wide range of people. Some clubs are run poorly while others are the embodiment of the Toastmaster's Pledge.
If you find a club and your experience is less than stellar it's O.K. to go looking for another.
Toastmasters does one thing that no amount of class work or book reading can ever do. It's a safe environment to move at your own speed to improve your communication & leadership skills.
When the leadership is good they will find the edge of your comfort zone and get you to take one step beyond it. It might be to put you in the role of Timer for the evening, which will force you to read off everyone's speech time to the club at the end of the meeting. Later they'll move you to the Grammarian's role or elsewhere. They might even pair you with the Sargent at Arms to help welcome members & guests and to set up the room for the night. You might be asked to help the VP of Public Relations in creating flyers and making posts to online community calendars. Eventually you'll make your first speech to the group, the "Ice Breaker" speech.
Since my time with Toastmasters I've spotted numerous people with the tell-tale signs of Asperger's and PDD-NOS. Funny enough these are the people who've been with Toastmasters for three years or more. If you have an appetite for social interaction, Toastmasters is worth checking out.
Wow; I can't believe I luyed someone back, and convinced 3 others (on here and on Facebook) to look into joining! I must have more power over society than I think I do!
My club is a laid-back place (I was rejected from the more formal one). All different kinds of speeches and people!
