Is this right? ... Did I figure this coorectly ?
First off, I have a zip drive with four Zip tapes from 95 -98 and each zip tape can hold up to 800 MB Compressed and 400 MB uncompressed..
When I added this up to see how many Gigabytes all four zip tapes can hold together I did it like this:
800 MB: 8X4 = 32 so 3200. And if a Gigabyte is (technically) 1024 MB's the 3200 -1024 = 2048 then 3200 - 2048 = 1262 which I rounded off the 62 part to get 1300 thus 2.13 GB's for all Zip tapes together if I compressed all the data.
400 MB: 4X4 =16 s0 1600. 1600 - 1024 = 686 rounded off to 700 = 1.7 GB's. So I get 1.7 GB's with all Zip Tapes without compression...
I know my method for figuring this out is way unorthodox and probably totally wrong, but I'm not sure and maybe someone could explain to me how to convert the total MB's to see how many Gigabytes I actually get out of these old school Zip Tapes... Also (bonus) Well Linux recognize the Zip Drive if I was to connect it to a peripheral socket?
Thank you

3200MB is slightly over 3GB
3 X 1024 = 3072
I'm not anti-social; I'm just not user friendly

Aren't those drives quite slow in the meantime, compared e.g. to a 4 GB USB-2.0 Stick?

I didn't even know zips were still out there. I remember hearing about them for about two years, then it all went quiet....
