Proposed Vogue cover

What a strange, strange world we live in.

full article in The Atlantic

In all seriousness, I'm not sure what they're trying to accomplish by handling Ri Sol Ju the way that they have been.  Are they trying to have their own Kate Middleton?  How is a prominently displayed Dior handbag (which I'm sure was no accident) supposed to make them look good?

Hopefully it is some bizarre sign of change, but I won't hold my breath.

Um.. aam I missing something?

The cover is a "satirical profile" - not a real cover.

from your link
Rose in the Baekdu: A Satirical Vogue Profile of North Korea's New First Lady

silly me, I do not even see a dior bag...!?

RE: Proposed Vogue cover

I guess I should have made that a bit more clear- it is a joke. Wink

It is poking fun at whatever the heck it is that NK is trying to do by handling her the way that they are.  I am hoping that by making all of these cultural changes - allowing women to wear more modern clothing, having a fashionable first lady, that bizarre Disney concert, etc. - they are hinting at their desire to be more open and less antagonistic.  I sincerely doubt it, but here's hoping!

In a more likely scenario, the powers behind the baby Kim are allowing him to make these little changes so that he doesn't feel the need to rock the boat in any larger way.
