RE: Does anyone else find the Syfy channel sexist?
I saw parts of Sand sharks and I remember thinking to myself "Sand Sharks because apparently Shark-opus was a stupid enough movie" cause it seems people aren't even trying anymore...
What is it with this obsession with making sharks/alligators seems more lethal but failing miserable? Can anyone remember the last good shark/alligator/creature movie?
but why complain right?
when there's now plenty of material to work with and plenty of bad movies too Let's inspire people to make movies (like Birdemic) and later make them famous by riffing the hell out of them...
Mike Bill and Kevin has a way of breaking the 4th wall of any movie.
Meaning they can even turn a Drama (such as Titanic) and making it funnier than hell. I think they achieve this looking for flaws and pointing this out sarcasticly and they have years of practice from doing stand up (I think)plus their legendary show... Speaking of which, I don't think even half of them are true fans of MST3K. Of all the comments I've read, posting on the full length episode on YouTube, Nobody seems to ever say anything about the hilarious segments (or breaks between movies) and to me that's always a laugh or two

I think it is more that B movies in general are sexist. And also that some of the classic sci-fi comes from an era that was very sexist by current standards.

There are some very good b-movies out there, which aren't any more sexist than most. It's that syfy is trying to cash in on fans of B-movies, which means those movies probably have a much better budget than B movies in general. The thing is, when someone with a truly limited budget makes a B movie, they still put a lot of effort into it, and the mistakes will be forgiven by fans because the producers did their best to make a good or even great movie, and there will be many parts of the film where they succeeded. What syfy is doing is deliberately making *** movies because that's what b movies are apparently, crap that people like because of the fact that it's crap. Syfy has been insulting geeks since they were acquired by their new parent company, I forget who, but I remember when it was purchased, they had all these commercials about how wonderful it was going to be, then of course the wrestling started. Bastards.

I don't know about SyFy (I hardly ever watch it), but here in the UK there's a channel called Movies4Men on the Sky TV platform. I find that rather sexist, as it assumes women don't like action movies or sci-fi movies! If I recall correctly, at one time there was also a channel marketed specifically towards women, and I thought that was sexist as well. Different people can like things regardless of their gender, so I don't see the point in marketing a channel towards a specific sex.

lol- we in th USA have Spike TV _same concept- I am a gal and I like action movies - but I think the difference is in the commercials - lots of (pretty) ladies in the commercials.;; oh and for women Lifetime - but that is too sappy for me- insulting (warped romance/thrillers) and unwatchable...
