Military rations are tasty

I've been buying MREs recently, they taste really nice - but my friends who have served in the forces tell me that they have a reputation for tasting nasty.

Anyone else ever tasted rations?

I had MRE's back when I was 15/16 and I loved the short cakes and the grape drink mixes Big Grin

Also  I remember the main course being in a "sauce" like packaging and if I remember correctly, MRE's were plastic wrapped within a box or something like that....

My step-dad even told me they tasted nasty but I disagree as I used to snack on them after school, that and boil lot's of tea Big Grin

The entree comes in a foil pouch type thing that you heat up by putting into boiling water (the flameless heater boils water in a bag).

I love the lime flavour isotonic myself.

RE: Military rations are tasty

I had Mountain House camp rations, similar. I guess canned beefaroni is like a C ration eaten cold.

But it won't kill you, just taste cold

I had forty two cans of beefy mac, two weeks rations, plus water in five gallon jugs
