Yeah so I've been getting suspicious e-mails on my hotmail e-mail account about game accounts that I haven't even created and this is coming from Blizzard Entertainment.com Here's the contents of one e-mail from Blizzard:

  

1. I didn't even sign up with Blizzard.com, but I may have in the past, so I may have to do some investigating here...
2. Goddamn Social Engineering/phishing/scam/they-think-I'm-some-sort-of-idiot!
3. Also been getting some facebook e-mails about a user who I had befriended in the past, claiming to be looking for me with this message:

Blah blah I've been trying to reach blah blah let's have sex blah blah nasty sexual stuff blah blah blah here's a code to watch me at work blah blah..... Aspie guys DO NOT VISIT P0RN SITES! Or you'll be bombarded with these stupid obvious phishing e-mails. and please DO NOT JUDGE ME AS I'M AN AVERAGE GUY PEOPLE!

Now to the point after that's cleared up I'm wondering if I could change my primary e-mail and more importantly my password ? Is there such a way? I'm concerned about my account being compromised since Hot-mail lacks ...well... security much like the Windows OS and want to use my Yahoo e-mail instead :/

Nvm I forgot there was an option to change your e-mail and password..... My bad :/

It's a phishing scam - nobody at blizzard would ask you for those details.

Yeah that's what I figured it was and whats more is I didn't click on the link the e-mail provided. This pisses me off due to the fact that it insults my intelligence....  

I'm not sure, but I think I already changed the e-mail, I might have to change the password just to be sure and It'll make me feel a lot better if I did :/

You'd be amazed at the number of people out there that this kind of thing does work on.

General comment directed at anyone reading this: When in doubt, contact the company directly from their website. They can tell you whether or not they sent that email.

It may not be that the people who fall for it are indeed stupid, but my circumstances were different from theirs. I need to stop generalizing people like this and start thinking before I post from now on..... :/

No, I don't think most people who fall for these things are stupid. It's usually designed to look legitimate, and most people are honest enough to not want to go against the terms of agreement. I would imagine it's also pretty easy to send out a lot of these emails, so even if only a few people respond, it's worthwhile.

Does anyone truly remember a time back then, when we didn't need all these captcha's and phishing and social engineering wasn't as huge a problem as it is now?

I mean what the *** are these a**holes trying to achieve? Don't they realize d_olson, that their only killing the internet to where one day nobody could ever use it cause every single site would be infected and the world will be forced to get rid of every network and small networks? These low life's never ever think about their consequences and probably are the dumbest people in the world.  

They only do it so they could get their 15 minutes of fame, and security auditors are probably happy as sh*t that crackers have such huge mouths that they shout all over the internet every little exploit they discover or virus they wrote themselves. :/
