Autism Speaks Accused Of Disability Discrimination

The mother of a teen with autism is suing Autism Speaks for allegedly rescinding a job offer after she requested workplace accommodations so she could care for her son.
Simone Greggs, 44, says that officials at Autism Speaks violated the Civil Rights Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act when the nonprofit took back an offer of employment this spring just days before she was scheduled to start work.
In a complaint filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia earlier this month, Greggs said that she was supposed to start her new job as a walk events manager at Autism Speaks’ Washington, D.C. office in early May after successfully completing five different interviews, a pre-employment background check and a drug test.
But Greggs said everything changed after she asked her new employer if they would accommodate an alternate work schedule or allow her to work from home on Wednesdays when her son’s school let out early.
Greggs was told that such accommodation would not be possible. She then made other arrangements for her son, but was subsequently informed by Autism Speaks managers that they were “rescinding the employment offer because they did not want to make any accommodations for the care of her autistic child,” the court filing says.

Thought it'd be about their official policy of not hiring autistics on their board.

Autism Speaks is reliable. Life with autism is dramatic. Sadly, I hope this kind of random claims do not undermine the titanic job, and the goals volunteers have achieved.
wow...... *** you curebie....

Didn’t put my full comment up: ” ‘Autism Speaks is committed to employing parents and other family members of people with autism, as well as individuals on the spectrum’, the organization said.”

I have posted it on four other sites, including deviantArt and facebook. I am considering registering to new forums just to post it there, lol.

1) They shouldn't be worried about being sued...
After all they have a lot of money they don't need and/or deserve. Though that's the case with many super-rich people these days.
2) Is is the first disability discrimination for them to actually be sued for? What about all their bullshi*, batshi*, horseshi*, Baboonshi* claims and "research". Oh wait...
RE: [ds]Autism Speaks Accused Of Disability Discrimination
Hahahaha! Well, I shouldn't be laughing at this, considering the fact that the woman was discriminated against. But this is too ironic for words. (and not in a good way!) But I'm not surprised!

Don't know if this is the first time, but let's spread the word about this one. Even if they do lose, it probably won't hit them hard financially. The point is that it wouldn't be good publicity for the organization that "works to help those affected by autism" to be firing someone because they asked for accomodations having to do with her autistic son.

I also wanted to add to my comment that the woman Doris Perez who commented
"Autism Speaks is reliable. Life with autism is dramatic. Sadly, I hope this kind of random claims do not undermine the titanic job, and the goals volunteers have achieved."
Is probably an online plant from Autism Speaks to remind people of the *lies* that Autism Speaks spreads to con people who are still ignorant of what Autism is and isn't and to attempt to distract people with these *facts*.
RE: [ds]Autism Speaks Accused Of Disability Discrimination
Yes, reliably unjust! And let's just make that life a little more dramatic, shall we? Let's make it impossible for mothers of autistic children to support them.
Amazing. This should be all over the news, why is this the first I'm hearing about it?
RE: [ds]Autism Speaks Accused Of Disability Discrimination
I hope a judge decides the evidence of disability discrimination is great enough to warrant class action status, a detailed examination
of Autism Speaks plays out in civil court, Autism Speaks is plagued with many guilty verdicts, Autism Speaks must drastically change
its policies in order to be in compliance with laws governing the rights of disabled people, Autism Speaks is nearly crippled by the
amount of money it must payout, and Autism Speaks is faced with a decision to either turn over all operations to autistics, sell its assets
to ASAN, or risk going out of business.
Ask not what people can do for you,
Ask what will you do for yourself.

Now slow down there.
Remember the shi**y job the warren commission did, investigations into China's human rights, or the investigation into the JRC? If an investigation is even carried out, it won't be a good one. It will very likely be corrupted or lazy.
I doubt they will take action and if you're right and they have no choice, I doubt they will.
I'm sure they'd rather go out of business than have a single actual person who they claim to "be helping" have a single say in their organization. Even if they do, they'll be "bad eggs" and want to be "cured" this could make the situation worse.
Then again, I'm a paranoid pessimist who likes to listen to creepy horror stories named after Italian food that a designed to cause paranoia.
