For those not sure what this is - a worm's brain got scanned, now it lives in the computer.

How long before a human's brain can be scanned and then live in a computer?

I saw a date of 2030

Much better than freezing - IMO.

Except for 2 things:
1 - The duplicates problem (it's not a transfer of consciousness, it's a copy - a copy of you will live on but you won't)

2 - With current technology it is possible to scan brain tissue at a high-enough resolution to make my wormy friend possible but the process is destructive to the original

I suppose it was in a good cause... one step closer to brain uploading.

It's too simple to have emotional states

Hmm... A mind living inside a computer with no capacity for emotion or compassion. Does this sound to anyone else like the beginning of a sci-fi horror movie?

You can see on the youtube video what its world looks like - a simplistic little 3D environment vaguely similar to a petri dish.

As for the lack of emotion and compassion, well so far lack of compassionate biological worms hasn't harmed the human race too badly.

Yeah, I'm not too worried about it. The joke was just too tempting to pass up.

It does look a bit lonely. Sad

Can you put another one in there? Smile
