"Bronies."

So guys, what are your thoughts on bronies?

I myself see no problem with people liking My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic. Bronies aren't hurting everybody, so I think they should have the right to like their show and express themselves. I've checked out the show myself and actually found it to be quite enjoyable, although it isn't the first thing on my mind, the characters are adorable and I can't deny that - I think a lot of bronies out there simply use the show to escape the madness that is life and modern living, colourful singing ponies seem a nice relief from the chaos of life to them, and in my opinion, that's ok.

But, what is your opinion?

RE: "Bronies."

Where do I begin with this....
I'm not against Bronies or anything, don't get me wrong, but my brother is a brony. The only thing that really annoys me about Bronies is, well for my brother, he NEVER shuts up about it. I don't care if someone likes something that seems unusual, but if you constantly talk about it it really gets on my nerves. The thing that annoys me about them in general is they always try to convince others to watch the show or they get all defensive if you don't like it. They say you don't understand or whatever or have no taste, or at least that's what I've been seeing.
My brother has been trying to make me watch that show ever since he started obsessing over it a few months ago. I seen one episode and I absolutely didn't like it at all. I just don't. He still tries to make me or convince me. He always says that one phrase about.. something of.... once you watch it you're a brony or something? Well, that's not true because it didn't work for me.
But like I said, I'm not against them or anything... they just really get on my nerves with all the complaining.

Yeah, some bronies are obnoxious about it, but then there are bronies out there who keep it online and don't talk about it offline and see it as a hobby rather than a new way to gain attention. People who are hyper obsessed are usually the loudest fans, therefore compounding a stereotype on the internet that affects the rest of the fan base. It's such a shame, too. But some people aren't aware of how much it annoys others, so they talk about it CONSTANTLY. Those who get defensive if somebody likes it are insecure and still think they shouldn't be watching it, and the ones who try and convince others usually mean well, despite how obnoxious their delivery might seem.

RE: "Bronies."

I believe the true Brony fans are the ones that keep it to themselves, because who cares if others need to like it? It should only matter to you that you like it... who cares what others think on it. For example, I play this online game that may seem childish to others, but I still play it and don't go around telling others to play it with me. It's just me and that's that. And I've met really great friends on there too.
My brother will join basically ALL the Brony websites because that's just how obsessed he is with it. He constantly posts on there too and annoys everyone else and makes up dumb stories with the My Little Pony characters or his own character in the story. I actually laughed that he got banned a couple times because of how much he was annoying them. I keep trying to tell him what he's doing to those people, but he just doesn't listen and then he gets upset when something bad happens.

RE: "Bronies."

I thought it - being a brony, saying you liked the show, watching it, talking about it - was all about being part of a meme - just being aware it existed (being hip) and pretending it made a person unconventional and not afraid to be thought of as less than "manly".... meanwhile- it really may be, as I said, a group of people that just want to belong to a group. (lol, like all the "non confromist" rockers/punks or goths etc.,  (that all dress exactly the same) Smile

My teen son was under the mistaken? impression the guys talking about it at school were in "Love" with them... (ick factor)

RE: "Bronies."

I'm gonna be completely honest here and say I actually AM a fan of the show. I love it - it makes my day brighter, helps me deal with stress and negative feelings and actually makes me wanna be more creative. However, I'm not a "brony" and  I never will be. I see no point in having a label such as that. Earlier on, the fandom was actually a very, very close-knit collective of like minded individuals - bronies liked love and tolerance, the message of the show and the animation/characters. It was actually quite awesome and included some pretty deep intellectual discussion. However now if you were to find bronies chatting, it would be about minecraft, dubstep, how "sexy" Rainbow Dash is (urrrrrgh those particular bronies give me the creeps) and really pointless menial crap. The original fandom was awesome, however since it exploded and became popular, the morons have gotten in and spoiled it for the rest of us. Corruption seems to be an unstoppable force everywhere, and that show is where I go to escape corruption - however, not even the fans of said show are exempt from corruption. It makes me want to weep.

RE: "Bronies."

I agree with the labels thing. That's like saying we need labels for watching Spongebob or Bugs Bunny or Fairly Oddparents or anything else similar to that or just basically ANYTHING.
I actually asked my brother what he was posting just now on a Brony website and he said something about minecraft. I was like wow, isn't that convenient because I just read what you said about what they post now-a-days.
I also agree to the last thing you said about corruption. I have a favorite band and I've been his fan since 2008 (basically when he started, but just a year later) and now he has gotten so popular that his music is changing. I mean, I know that's what artists do, but it just doesn't seem like him. The fame is either getting to him or he's being forced to create certain music... either way I hope he gets back to the way he was. I mean, last year his music was incredible. This year it's just going down the drain. I believe it's the whole corruption thing as you said because there will be those morons that just completely ruin things. I don't wanna give up on him just yet but if he keeps going the way he is, I might have to. It will upset me though because I believed in him not to change and he did. I'm going to wait though.

RE: "Bronies."

oh, that must be what (teen son) heard, a few being funny (or creepy) by turning such a happy show into something sort of icky by saying "sexy" etc.,

my middle son still has a soft spot for the care bears - he maybe saw the show a few times when he was little but he had  (or was it his sister?) a set of care bears that harmonized - when they were near each other - I think his sister gave him the green (bear) - and she had the other three.  Just as sweet as the pony's.

I like the show Little Bear - for it's lack of corruption an nice background/ theme music.

RE: "Bronies."

just watched this about Bronies:
http://youtu.be/UE7I_IDX98g

It seems interesting. Can't say that I find it super strange; not much different than any anime obsession I've known of (my lil bro was obsessed with DBZ for a time, and drew countless comics). Also, not surprising that Fox News ragged them.

Its fascinating realizing how many forums are on the internet, I am just discovering what online community is about...never really been an internet buff (until I got a new laptop, and then 24-hr wifi the past 1 to 2 years). Before that it was the family computer (shared by 6 ppl), and slow-*** dialup that consumed the phone-line and could not even load my gmail.

RE: "Bronies."

Never heard of a Brony until I saw this thread.

I will have to watch the show now.

When I was 16 it was cool to be a fan of a Japanese kids show called "Monkey". I don't think anyone actually thought it was a good show, but you were cool if you watched every episode.

RE: "Bronies."

I've seen excerpts of it.  It seems to me a lot like Caillou, + five years or so.

My niece watches the Sprout network, and Caillou was her favorite for a looooong time.  I had great fun irritating the crap out of her mother and several other family members by singing the theme song, but as for actually liking kids' shows, I'll stick with Invador ZiM.

Heh, well, I enjoy Sesame Street, Paddington Bear, Rugrats, Care Bears,
3 stooges, and I don't know.

My late wife Tammy liked Power Rangers and My Little Pony,
and so did I, but I hardly think I'd "qualify" to be "Brony".

I like so many other happy shows.

Caillou, Arthur, Sid The Science Kid,
The Wiggles, Teletubbies.

I think the elephant is called Babar. :S

Anyways as for the Bronies, more power to them. I don't mind them personally and if they aren't harming me, why should I bother them. Hm... I like the new My Little Pony, it brought the series back to life. To bad I don't get the Hub. Sad
