Anyone 16 (or 15) and learning to drive?
Just went driving yesterday with my dad... he said I did pretty good (OVERALL.. key word overall, lol).
things I still have to work on are wide turns and speeding through my turns, which are kinda opposite problems for me. I'd rather just go fast in my turn, because the slower I go the more time I have to *** the turn up and yes, go wide.
I also kinda suck at telling if Im too close to the curb sometimes, but it's better than being in the other lane. I am way better at not driving like I'm from Britain now, just about never happens. (when I started off in the vacant parking lot I kept driving on the wrong side of the lane for some reason... lol... like it was more natural or made more sense to drive on the left?). One thing I think I got down is going in the left lane (when there are two lanes for one way) and then switching to the right.
Another thing my dad said I had to stop doing was going immediately to the speed limit when the light turns green and jerking or stopping "abruptly" (Guess that could mess people up behind me... but I didn't really notice because I didn't consider it abrupt and I have a fast reaction time so if you were to point out someone that did the same in front of me I wouldn't think it was a big deal because I'd be able to stop just fine too but like it says in the driver's manual not everyone has a nice reaction time). Abruptly is in quotes because it wasn't a slam on the brakes or anything. I go straight to the speed limit when I mean to work up to it naturally and it takes more effort to try to go "slowly" to it and I prefer doing it that way anyway so that I have more room between me and the car behind me, it makes me wonder if they'd like us to be more ahead if they are right behind me.
I don't see anything wrong with doing it- it doesn't happen if there's a car right there in front of me or anything. That's the case with a lot of things actually, if there were cars around to bump into I'd automatically not do the things I seem to get wrong.
Some things that make me kind of nervous are the back mirrors and going downhill. I don't like down hills with a traffic light at the bottom of them in particular because I'm trying to slow down but not stop on it at the same and there are cars behind me and etc and I'm going faster and I'm just afraid of going fast behind the cars waiting I guess. Wasn't in any actual danger of running into them. By back mirrors I mean when backing up to park- I'd rather be able to actually see behind me than look in the mirror, it's kinda like looking at something second hand (video vs live), I don't know if I can trust the mirror. It feels like... like touching something with a very long chopstick rather than directly with my fingers. A distant sensation or trying to do something distantly.
I always wonder why
When you look down into my eyes
My feeling swiftly changed between happiness and sorrow
And tears begin to fall
I’m not you and you are not me
But your pain becomes my pain
When you are sad, I’m the one who foolish cry
When you are wounded, my heart is hurt more

What about when you're older? Might as well at least get the exam and licensing out of the way?

Who is teaching you to use mirrors when you are reversing? That is the opposite of what I was always taught.

Yeah, really, they'd knock me for NOT looking back when reversing. XD
But then, the only thing I have a hard time with was parallel parking, and I'm never doing that anyway.

Sounds like you are doing average - slowing and accelerating evenly is typically the thing that takes the most practice.
Good job... stay calm.

I'm 23 and I still don't know how to drive. Guess I never needed to learn lol...
Good luck on your lessons- I heard it is very liberating once you master it.

I tried driving.... it was horrible, Mom kept screaming for the hell of it... (Maybe she was scared, or over reacting) Yet then again.... Who knows

Tell her to sit in the back and look out the window. That's what I did.
But yeah, driving is a practised skill. You'll learn in time.

A better teacher might make everything go way better,... even if you feel like you just suck at driving.

I realized that I can't focus on the road when driving in general.

I've also been taught to actually look behind you when driving in reverse. You just can't see everything well enough to operate the car when you're relying on your mirrors.

Mirrors are useless for looking back when driving. They literally fail at their intended purpose. NEVER rely on them.
