Anyone like sushi?

I know its an acquired taste, but does anyone else like sushi? By which i mean the actual fillets of raw fish with sticky rice, not just the crabsticks rolled in nori.

I love salmon and tuna ngiri, I can even make these myself.

RE: Anyone like sushi?

Sushi is awesome, especially nigiri. Too bad I lived the first fifteen years of my life under the "ewww, raw fish" false impression, and never actually tried it until midway through high school (when I started studying Japanese). Salmon is my favorite, since it reminds me of the lox on bagels.

I never tasted my favorite candy (Heath bars) until I was in high school, either. This is because I thought they were called "Health bars", so I stayed very far away from them. Tongue

Fish is great, its one of the meat groups that you can eat with very few negative health repercussions.

Its fine unless you are a woman, child or looking to get pregnant. The mercury, pesticides and pollution are a kicker.

RE: Anyone like sushi?

I like sushi. I like fish generally, as long as it is fresh.

Catching them is more fun than eating them.

RE: Anyone like sushi?

I never had true sushi, but the rolled up raw crab meat. That doesn't mean I wouldn't try it though, I did have fried frog legs before and absolutely loved it Tongue

To derail this thread even more: me too, and I thought they tasted just like fried chicken legs. Only they were smaller, obviously.

RE: Anyone like sushi?

Sushi is usually my preferred method of eating fish. Well, okay, I've had fish prepared other ways that I like. Let's face it, the Japanese know how to do fish.

Plus, I also have a strong liking for wasabi.

I love them. Concerning the taste, the fresher, the less they taste like fish.

RE: Anyone like sushi?

I always feel too sorry for the fish to eat them.  They really are at the bottom of the food chain, everything else eats them.  I'll eat meat, but it has to be farmed, not taken from the wild.  And fish is just not on my menu at all, since they're not sustainably farmed.  The seas and oceans of the world are being reduced to a desert now, and I don't want their extinction on my conscience.  So although I like the taste of fish, I refuse to eat them.

RE: Anyone like sushi?

On the other hand, with sushi, a little bit goes a long way.

Salmon and oyster can be farmed. Trout too.
