The House has already passed cutting the Budget Control Act's upper spending limits by $19 billion. This budget would unravel the social safety net while increasing spending on tax benefits to the wealthiest individuals, corporations among us, and military spending.

More specifically, agreeing to the lower spending number would cut an estimated 75,000 children from Head Start services (proven to be highly effective in their later school success); 17,000 seniors would no longer receive Meals on Wheels; job training would be lost to over 650,000 adults and youth, and over 700,000 households would no longer receive help paying for their home heating or air conditioning.  

You can email, write, or call your senators to encourage them to hold on to the spending limits in the Budget Control Act, as they set spending limits for the FY 2013 budget.

In the long term we need to prune the budget carefully and compassionately, but this is not an acceptable short-term fix!
