I have watched the Louis Theroux programme Extreme Love on Tuesday and I have to say, most of it made me pretty miffed, although it mainly focused on the struggles of parenting the severly autistic.

There was a mother of the two severly autistic children who said, and I quote, "I don't get any enjoyment out of my children" and also, "I wish it was my son on the football field or my daughter on the cheerleading squad, doing what kids do..." and this just made me want to throw something at the TV Screen. Also, she was mourning over her kids as if they were dead. JUST BE THANKFUL THEY'RE ALIVE, YOU ***! Autism isn't a terminal illness! I understand thet it can be hard to raise autistic kids, but autism has it's good sides. Attitudes like that mother's really piss me off!

There was a debate on this on The Wright Stuff (A debate programme on Channel 5 in the UK) about the said quote from the programme on whether is really was no fun raising an AS kid and let me tell you, that debate was more sensible and reported from all points of view.

Also on the Autism programme, there was a high functioning 19 year old kid who was moving to a mainstream school as he wanted to be challenged more and I felt he was my American male counterpart as I felt the same way as he did and felt his pain.

Complaining that their kids are not on the football team or cheerleading squad.  Likely this parent would say the same about having normal kids who were not on the football team or cheerleading squad.   I can imagine the torture if they were aware of how disappointing they were to their mother.  

Imagine do some teens enjoy being on the football team or cheerleading squad.  Good if they do but that is not for everyone.  So the autistic kids EVER enjoy their lives?  I think so.  Just that parent feels she has nothing to brag to her friends about.  She wanted to give birth to an accessory to impress her friends?

Did Louis do his traditional disapproving but curious thing about these parents?
