Our State (California) makes it illegal to hunt Mountain Lions.  Our head of Fish and Game then went to another State, paid 7000 dollars, and killed a Mountain Lion that was corralled.  It was not even a fair hunt!  

He should be removed.  He did not technically violate the laws of our State but he violated the spirit behind those laws.  These arrogant politicians lord it over the people, and vote themselves so many perks.  They take bribes.  In this character's case, he paid 7000 dollars of what may well have been tax payer money for a hunt that was not even a legitimate trophy anyway!  

I am not anti-hunting for those who need to do it.  There was no need in this case.  If he could afford 7000 dollars, then he did not need the meat.  Shame!

Why do we have so many corrupt politicians?  They are laughing at the people.  By deliberately going against the spirit of the laws he was showing contempt for the people of the Republic of California, the most populous State in the Union.  Shame!

What in the names of the gods allows a man to hunt (whether a mountain lion or otherwise) for fun?  And mountain lions are near extinction.  Any death in the mountain lion species makes it less fit for survival in the long run.  Every death is a loss of genetic diversity.  And this makes the whole species more vulnerable to agents of death other than humanity.  What is it that gets into people!  Who wants to hunt endangered species?

I think we need a provision in our laws that states a member of the government of a state must obey that state's laws wherever s/he is.  This is separate from the endangered species issue.  What it would mean is that members of government cannot enact laws they can get away from.  It would increase accountability to their actions.  

Keep in mind of course, we can't do it based on what a person votes for.  I believe in the secret ballot, and extension of the principal to members of the government means that should they vote as they feel is right with accountability to hte people they represent, and only the people they represent (so a polititian may not hide his/her votes, but is accountable for the laws of the state he or she is a member of government from).  So if an elected official travels out of state, they are still subject to the laws of the state where they were elected.  However they voted.  This means politicians would be accountable both to themselves, their electorate, and to their peers.  

Any thoughts?  I can smell a few problems, but I can't articulate anything interesting against this idea right now.

Well, it may depend on the law involved.  In this case, however, the spirit of the law was violated.  It shows extra contempt on the part of the political class for the people.  EXTRA contempt.  

He figures he will get his corporate campaign contributions anyhow.  Disgusting!!!!!!!!!
