Much of the events filmed were not peaceful.

Violent crimes sometimes are filmed and then the people responsible are charged and  convicted whether they are protestors or police.

A lot of the violence seems to be police provoked imo.

I think that's the point. Often, the two or three non-peaceful acts are the only ones that get any press time out of an otherwise peaceful event.

RE: How to film a peaceful protest.

where I live, it seems that recent "peaceful demonstrations" were never intended to be peaceful from the start.  There were the groups who maybe planned violence before and the police were already ready with the riot gear.  People did film the violence by the mobsters who were trying to hide their faces and put umbrellas in front of cameras.  Also some police took off their name tags to try and not get identified (that failed).

When most people asked if they tried to contact MPs or even if they voted about the issues being protested, they said that they did not bother or did not have time to vote.  Any time I asked a person what were the issues they were protesting they would reply globalization.  When I asked them to define and explain, they could or would not.  They offered no solutions.  There even seems to be a generational and economic divide and no one is talking.

Unfortunately, there are always small groups within every peaceful demonstrations that believe that violent actions are the only way to get anything done. It's especially unfortunate because these small groups give the whole movement a huge black eye.
