Would you convert to get your kid into a better school
My relatives converted to another religious sect just to get their kids into that school.
I have some other friends who want to send their kid to a Catholic school (no tuition, publicly funded). The reasons are:
1. they heard that the local public school is not very good
2. The local public school is not near their daycare
3. the local public school is mostly another ethnic group and most of the students do not speak English.

RE: Would you convert to get your kid into a better school
I can't answer your question because I have no children nor any interest whatsoever in producing or raising any. However, I have always wondered how a school which pays teachers to teach demonstrably incorrect myths and illogical dogmas as fact, thus possibly damaging a child's ability to distinguish fact from fiction and certainly creating dificulties when a child has to learn about things like biology, physics and mathematics, could possibly be considered to be better than a school that does not. I'd hate to be a science, geography or history teacher in such an establishment. It must feel like trying to build a house while somebody else keeps dismantling the foundations. Maybe they don't care care about the child's intellectual development as long as it gets good exam results.

It would not be better for the child to go to a school that teaches no religion or philosphy and not much of anything else. Like a warehouse for children.
You are correct in stating that you cannot answer the questions because you did not. The comments were not helpful either.

In the US, catholic schools are NOT publicly funded (they cost us extra) BUT NONE of the catholic schools care AT ALL what your childs religion is. My kids school is a catholic school and we have jewish kids, a couple of muslims and other christian/non catholics that do NOT take communion at school and this is perfectly fine.
They do have to go to church with their classes once a week or so, but no communion. (Yes, they have to take religion as a subject - but in catholic school it is not indocrination at all)

Teaching falsehood is better then not teaching them falsehood? How is that even remotely intelligent?
No i would not convert to send my kid into a religious school. It would be really stupid. Also it show the depth of someone faith if he is willing to drop it to pick another more convenient one.

We put our daughter into an Anglican public school for her last two years of high school. We weren't required as a family to change anything so long as we paid the fees. Which is good, since I'm agnostic, my husband is a (casual) Hindu, and daughter doesn't really care one way or the other.

My son goes to a state Roman Catholic school. I'm a Protestant, his father is an atheist and there is no requirement to be RC. In Scotland, a lot of Muslims send their children to RC schools as the only state funded faith schools.
I think in England some parents do start attending church of England solely to get their children into church schools as there is some kind of requirement.

I went to a Catholic school, I was raised non-domination. The school was hell on earth, they don't teach about tolerance and their was favoritism to families that were Catholic. I felt isolated and I was forced to believe in something I didn't want to.

I was in a british school setting when I was in pre-school, through 1/2 of kindergarten, so no I wouldn't want to convert to something just because the school requires me too for the sake of reasoning.

In what way is it a dichotomy? Where is the other portion of M's assertion that completes this supposed false dichotomy?

She seems to be trying to say that the only choice is between "good" schools that teaches religion, and poor schools that do not.

Another question then. You cannot move. There are two schools in the neighbourhood: one religious and one non. The religious school is good academically. The other school is non religious but poor academically and most of the kids do not speak English.
I know someone who was sent to a Muslim school just because it was good. Her family was Hindu but somehow she ended up Catholic by choice.
If you send the kid to the better school then how do you ignore or unteach the religious stuff.

My daughter was already an atheist (her choice) by the time she went to an Anglican high school for her senior years. Our local high school only went up to Year 10, and she already knew she wanted to go to university and what she wanted to study. She said she actually found the time in chapel quite nice: it made a nice change not to have NTs chattering away for an hour a day.

True.
want to say:
(in our case, one of the reasons we choose the catholic school 2 of our kids go to is because they get a better education. YES even in science - The foundations of science do not change - fact is fact. (creationism is not even mentioned in catholic school ( I think that is some other sort of christian school thing) especially in geography (heck knowing so much about the middle east and all original names and governments/religions there is useful in understanding that area...) People choose schools carefully, we choose what gives the best overall education. (parents are in charge of their kids at our kids school - NOT the school... though in public school (here) the school thinks THEY are in charge.)
There are public schools will do a BETTER job and then I would send my kids there.
