I agree with most of what 142857 says, but as for a middle ground between Limbaugh and Stalinism I am across the spectrum from both of them.  A middle ground between corporatism and Stalinism is not exactly my area.  

Also, getting the poor off of welfare has had tremendously devastating impacts on the job market.  Wages declined (along with outsourcing) and competition for scarce jobs increased.  Working Americans were better off with the poor on assistance.  That was not an ideal economy for a number of reasons, as pointed out by Francis Fox Piven, but at least there was some support at the bottom. The more ideal way to have gone would have been to revitalize labor activism.  Sadly, however, the shift to the right, along with the consolidation of power at the top, has made that all but impossible.

In any case, I basically take the side of 142857 in this context so I won't be too adamant in arguing with him on side points.  (Is that meant as a decimal value for 1/7?) I agree with him.  "Class warfare" exists in society, and was declared by the top long ago.  Why are politicians not supposed to mention it?
