One of the people I was thinking of who is managing very well is my cousin who went to a state school then a new university which was a technical college until the early 80s.  Her parents were art teachers.  She works in a senior position for an international blue chip company and although I don't know what her income is, it will be well in excess of £100,000.

Yes, I do live in a house provided by the church, which I would not be able to afford on my stipend.  Ministers live in wealthy and poor areas.  In looking for a parish I decided to focus only on areas with schools which would be suitable for my son's particular needs.  He is academically inclined and I now live in the catchment area for a state school with results well above the national average and which also has a base for pupils with communication difficulties, such as autism.

Children of manses often do well in life, including getting to run the country.
