ethanol (C2H5OH)   Definition:Ethyl Alcohol. A clear, colorless, and flammable oxygenated hydrocarbon. The type consumed as alcoholic beverages (brandy, rum, whisky, etc., and called just 'alcohol') is produced by the natural process of fermenting grapes, malt, sugar cane juice, etc. The type used as octane enhancer or alternative automotive fuel is derived from grain, corn, or catalytic hydration of ethane gas. High concentrations of ethanol in human body can interfere with the brain functions and can cause poisoning. When mixed with gasoline (usually in the proportion 85 percent ethanol to 15 percent gasoline), it is known as gasohol. Also called grain alcohol or grain spirit.

Somehow, I reckon there is a good chance of wino being dug up in her coffin a few hundred years, or more from now, and being found not to have decayed in the slightest.

RE: Amy Winehouse is dead.

I don't know that much about her, to be honest.  But I noted another story on the same page, about a million dollars worth of Australian wine being accidentally smashed while it was being loaded for export.  Winehouse dying at the same time as a million dollars of top wine being destroyed.  Almost makes me believe in a mischevious god...

Heh alison, you might have a point there. Bacchus/Dionysus would be pissed (pun intended), though.

As for the monks, I am familiar with that practise. Apparently some of them use a rather nasty brew, from the urushi tree, or lacquer tree, which is full of urushiol, the same blistering, corrosive poison found in the poison ivy, oak, and sumac (and in traces, its also found in the sap of the mango, some people are extremely sensitive, and even the mango, which is one of my favourite foods, will cause irritation) slowly, to achieve some sort of preservation procedure in addition to the mummification. Basically makes what is left far too poisonous for any critters to feast on.

Not something I would want to drink...nasty.

^The 27 Club?

Amy Winehouse now joins Jim Morrison, Brian Jones, Jimmy Hendricks, Janis Joplin and Curt Cobain among the music icons who have died at the age of 27. I may have forgotten some.

I was not surprised.  Damned waste of talent.  I think addictions have deep emotional roots.  Her family seemed to support her though but somehow all she had was not enough.  Why?

I don't know about traces in mango. Mango sap is really corrosive, particularly if you pick the fruit while it is still green. Years ago my family had a smallish mango tree in our front yard (some varieties of mango grow quite well even as far south as Sydney) and we would get 30 or 40 big mangoes off it every year - the branches would bend under the weight of the fruit until they were touching the ground.

A friend at work asked me to pick him some green mangoes, and told me to be very careful of the sap. So, of course, I completely ignored his advice, and as I snapped off a large green mango the sap sprayed out a good foot or two from where I had snapped the fruit off and I felt a burning sensation on my face. I didn't think much of it until later when I tried to clean my glasses and found that the sap had eaten into the plastic lens and left a permanent ragged furrow. The sap had also eaten the skin off my chin and left me with a nasty scab.

Ripe mango sap is much less corrosive. And nobody believed me about the mango sap, except the friend who had warned me.

Mango sap is bad.  I can only eat mango if someone else cuts it and peels if for me.

RE: Amy Winehouse is dead.

I was kinda surprised, whilst waiting for Family Guy to come on, there was a 60 seconds news report. That said "If you haven't already heard today's news, Amy Winehouse is dead"

27 years of age, so young to die. She will live on through her music forever. Not personally a massive fan, but I liked her music and I get angry when people make fun of her drug and drink problems, it peeves me off.

Let's hope she is mostly remembered for her role in kickstarting the revival of soul music in the 2000s.
