Not heard much of their stuff...but even vast/even more vast (they renamed themselves) did a really good version of 'love will tear us apart', its on youtube.

The lead singer...she is rather tasty. Looks like my other half, sort of.

I love them both..

I would say Blu monday is my favorite song along with the one they did for Blade (the rave scene).

As for Joy division, Love will tear us apart.

I like the four or five New Order songs I know, and I'd like to hear more.

It looks like I'll have to check out these bands.  If it's electronica, I'll probably enjoy them.  I'll have to remember these names the next time I go to Newbury Comics.

RE: Joy Division/New Order

For those unfamiliar with the history of Joy Division and New Order (like myself - that is why I googled it):

wikipedia Wrote:
Curtis's suicide "made for instant myth", in the words of music critic Simon Reynolds. Jon Savage wrote in his obituary for Curtis in Melody Maker, "Now no one will remember what his work with Joy Division was like when he was alive; it will be perceived as tragic rather than courageous." In June 1980, the posthumous single "Love Will Tear Us Apart" was released, which hit number thirteen on the UK Singles Chart. In July 1980, Closer finally came out, peaking at number six on the UK Albums Chart. NME reviewer Charles Shaar Murray wrote, "Closer is as magnificent a memorial (for 'Joy Division' as much as for Ian Curtis) as any post-Presley popular musician could have."

The members of Joy Division had made a pact long before Curtis's death that, should any member leave, the remaining members would change the name of the group. Eventually renaming themselves New Order, the band was reborn as a three-piece with Sumner assuming vocal duties; the group later recruited Morris's girlfriend Gillian Gilbert to round out the lineup as keyboardist and second guitarist.

I love the song "Love Will Tear Us Apart", as well as "Blue Monday" and some of their other stuff. I was a teenager when this stuff was being produced, although I wasn't a big fan at the time.

I'd encourage everyone who hasn't heard much of their stuff to go and check it out, because to me they're truely wonderful. Smile Both of them. Smile

Ah. What got you into their stuff after then?

RE: Joy Division/New Order

^I mean I liked their music when it came on the radio, but I didn't rush out and buy their albums or do any research on the band.

I really liked the music then and I still do. I was more a fan of David Bowie at the time though.

RE: Joy Division/New Order

Wasn't some dumbass bible thumper was it?

Quite amusing, although now its not so much, now, more old, hackneyed and trite, at best.

But godbotherers, bible-thumping puritans and their vile ilk, always coming out with things along the lines of XYZ band are the spawn of satan, and will make you eat kittens and wear underpants made out of freshly flayed baby skin.

Its pretty funny observing them getting all worked up into a slavering rabid jehovathon-frenzy over marilyn manson or cradle of filth. I bet dani laughs his arse off after every headline he reads, denouncing him as the pope of satan, the antichrist's heir, crown prince of all evil and the unholy scourge perverting modern kids into long-haired, trenchcoat-wearing hell spawn.

He some folks even beleived the Beatles and Elvis Presley to be evil.  I once was at a religious concert in 1982 and someone was saying how modern music was so evil and all such records and tapes should be destroyed.  I was shocked because alot of it was music I liked and I sure as hell was not willing to part with alot of my tape collection.  Led Zeppelin, Kiss, Styx, Cheap Trick, Van Halen and AC/DC were among the evil bands named.

Well when you think about it just about anything enjoyable in some way, shape or form is sinful; and therefore evil; whether its music, money, good tasting food or drink, sex (monogamous sex that doesn't hurt somebody else), or material goods.  Well, I for one, just want to enjoy my life and not be hung up on this.  There is already more than enough stuff to be uptight about.
