Zombie apocalapse, survival
I watch a lot of zombie movies, watch "The walking dead" on chanel 5 and am planing on making my 3rd novel zombie related. So, due to who you are do you think you would survive.
Me- Yes but only for around 5-10 years. Weapons would be a problem though. I know on hell of a lot about zombies, this would be an advantage. My other disadvantage is my care for things, family, friends, animals. I could not shoot any of them if they were to turn.
Stupid thread i know, but the will to post this has been haunting me for weeks.

Why does everyone but 20+, you really have to think about the situation more. I mean not everyone is really that good at survival. At least AspieGrrl
is being completeley honest.

RE: Zombie apocalapse, survival
Oh, and I can hit a bullseye with a proper bow and some arrows. That's probably a plus. I can sit still for periods of time as long as I don't have to do that for over 3 days. Once I run out of canned food getting new food my be a problem. I'm glad I know several sources of Jack Links(at stores) so I'll have plenty of protein. Imaginative(good at coming up with activities to do or stories to listen to, so as to ward off the crazies[plus, idle hands are the Devil's plaything]). Good knowledge of Zombies(not just The Infected, also The Raised Dead +more)
Based on both posts, how is my Life Expectancy looking?

RE: Zombie apocalapse, survival
I reckon less than a year in the sort of zombie apocalypse that was portrayed in Will Smith's movie "I Am Legend". You would need exceptional skills to last even one night. And in a REAL zombie apocalypse it would likely be more like this than it would be like in the more traditional zombie movies.
A bit longer in the sort of zombie apocalypse where undead people stumble around mumbling "brains.... brains....".

I was referring to the "....brAaaaaAAAAAIIIIInNNNnnnnnnnssss......." one. Weren't the zombies in 'I Am Legend' supposed to be good in the end? Wasn't it based on a book/story? I never saw the movie.

(1) No, but in the end Will Smith finds a cure just as the zombies are about to break into his final stronghold. He dies but he gives the cure to a woman and child and it is implied that they will go on to save mankind.
(2) Yes, it is based on a book. It is also based on a really cr@p seventies movie called "The Omega Man" (starring Charlton Heston). They never mentioned "The Omega Man" during the promotion of "I Am Legend" for obvious reasons.
"I Am Legend" is a good movie. Based on the idea that zombies that get faster and stronger than they were originally are a lot scarier than the traditional zombies. "48 Hours Later", or whatever the relatively recent low-budget Brit zombie movie is called, is based on that idea as well.

RE: Zombie apocalapse, survival
They changed the end.
You are correct. I didn't know about that. I only saw the version with the ending that saw general release.
Released version:
........
After Neville saves Anna and Ethan they hear the infected climbing the house, so they retreat into the basement laboratory. They seal themselves in a reinforced plexiglass room with the infected woman, where they discover that Neville's treatment is working: the subject looks more human. The infected break in and the alpha male starts throwing himself against the plexiglass separating them, cracking the material. Discovering that the last treatment has been successful, Neville draws a vial of the infected woman's blood and gives it to Anna before shutting them inside a coal chute hidden in the back of the lab. He uses an M67 hand grenade to wipe out the attackers at the cost of his own life and the healed woman's.
Anna and Ethan are later seen driving in Vermont and stopping at the gated entrance to the survivors' colony, where Anna hands over the cure. In a voice-over, Anna claims that the survivors are Neville's legacy, as his fight for a cure became legend.
Original Ending:
Due to test audience's dislike of the film's original ending, several scenes were altered before the film's release, especially the standoff between Neville and the infected in his laboratory. Visual effects supervisor Janek Sirrs recounts the original ending, starting with the standoff: "At that point, Neville's – and the audience's – assumptions about the nature of these creatures are shown to be incorrect. We see that they have actually retained some of their humanity. There is a very important moment between the alpha male and Neville. The alpha male slapped his hand on the glass and smeared it revealing a butterfly shaped imprint."
Neville realizes that the alpha male is identifying the woman he was experimenting on by a butterfly tattoo, and that the alpha male wants her back. Neville puts his gun down and returns the infected woman. Neville and the alpha male then exchange stares; Neville apologizes to them, which the alpha male acknowledges before the infected leave. The final shot follows Neville, Anna, and Ethan as they drive away. This ending is more consistent with the ending of the novel and was included as a special feature in some DVD releases of the film.
So in other words they started with an ending that was similar to the novel and changed it to an ending that is similar to the 1971 movie "The Omega Man":
The final scene shows the human survivors, led by Dutch, departing in a Land Rover. They discover a dying Neville, who hands Dutch a flask of blood serum, presumably with which to restore humanity. Shortly after handing over the serum Neville dies in a fountain, symbolically posed in the traditional position of the crucified Christ. Dutch takes Lisa and the survivors away as they leave the city for good, leaving the Family to die, as Neville planned.
