Deadlines

Are you any good at reaching deadlines?  Or do you need some reminders or help to get to the deadline?

I'm generally okay with reaching deadlines.  I try to always make sure that I do my reading well in advance, after all it's not as though I'm doing anything else like going out for partying, and then the week before the deadline I do the essay to give the day before the deadline so I'm not surrounded by a rush of crowd to do so.

RE: Deadlines

I am terrible about waiting until the last possible moment to complete an assignment.  I've always been that way, yet I always get good grades.  It is very stressful, though.  I'm trying to break that habit.

RE: Deadlines

I've always been a last-minute person, and I probably always will be.  I didn't know what to do with myself last night because I had my service notes all done and printed out on Friday.  I usually don't finish my sermon till 3am on Sunday morning.

RE: Deadlines

I've had to be organised for university work.  That is why I'm asking this general question, since I never used to be.  In fact I've had to learn hard and fast; although my mentor did give me a timetable to adapt and follow from.  Plus I'm always very aware of time.  I have to be organised but I've had to really work hard to learn how to organise.

I'd be the same way with it!  Smile  I find it interesting that a lot of us do the same thing with this, I wonder why?

I have no concept of time, none.  I think perhaps that is part of the problem.

RE: Deadlines

Once when I was a kid, I got into a lot of trouble for not getting a piece of homework in on time.  I got quite a lecture on time and keeping it in on time that hence the time table, I just have to incorporate it, otherwise I'll get shouted at again and that was horrible.  So, I've had to learn and I am still learning.  It's one of the reasons why I have a mentor, it's her timetable that I'm following (from one hour to another hour) and that is why I always carry a clock with me. Although another problem that I have  (had) is also focusing too much on favourites instead of focusing on all equally...

RE: Deadlines

I'm doing it again tonight, I'd better go write this paper! Sad  Seriously, I have to do better with my time next quarter, because the following quarter I'm going to be taking double the work load.

RE: Deadlines

I got good marks in high school despite the fact that I never even did assignments unless teachers insisted I do them - which meant that I never got started until after the assignments were due.

I've started on tertiary studies twice. More than 20 years apart. And didn't last more than a few months each time. I miss deadlines, let work pile up, I'm a disaster when it comes to study.

RE: Deadlines

I find it easier to meet deadlines with reading than writing because it's more straightforward to break down a reading task into manageable chunks.

As the player's breath warms the fipple the tone clears.
It is time to consider how Domenico Scarlatti
condensed so much music into so few bars
with never a crabbed turn or congested cadence,
never a boast or a see-here; and stars and lakes
echo him and the copse drums out his measure,
snow peaks are lifted up in moonlight and twilight
and the sun rises on an acknowledged land.

Basil Bunting, Briggflatts
