Diet and Aspergers
I notice when I eat sugar or foods with monosodium glutamate in them my brain goes wacky and I get very emotional. A friend of mine also knows somebody that said refined sugar and MSG is bad for people with Aspergers

RE: Diet and Aspergers
This may not be much help, but I've never had any more problems with diet than anyone around me.
Friends will let you be who you are. Best friends will never let you forget it. I'm just trying to be everyone's best friend.

Sugar effects everyone negatively because you get a rush of blood sugar, then a sudden crash when it is quickly depleted. If you have something sugary, make sure you have something with protein or complex carbohydrates to go with it.
MSG should not be consumed by anybody ever! Yuck. It gives me a headache.

RE: Diet and Aspergers
MSG has very unpleasant effects on my digestive system. Lucky this isn't the TMI thread.
Sugar makes my aspie son go a bit crazy - particularly sugary drinks.
Personally I find that the only way to get my diet under control is to severely limit simple carbs (not just sugar). I also find that if I eat any carb rich food at lunch time then I am falling asleep in the afternoon - I find it much better to eat protein and fibre rich foods for lunch (meat and salad) and then eat carbs in the evening.

In what way, "wacky"?
As the player's breath warms the fipple the tone clears.
It is time to consider how Domenico Scarlatti
condensed so much music into so few bars
with never a crabbed turn or congested cadence,
never a boast or a see-here; and stars and lakes
echo him and the copse drums out his measure,
snow peaks are lifted up in moonlight and twilight
and the sun rises on an acknowledged land.
Basil Bunting, Briggflatts

RE: Diet and Aspergers
my son is 6 and was recently diagnosed with Aspergers...sugar affects him in a bad way. He gets wild and crazy and won't listen. I also try to keep nitrates and MSG out of his diet because of mood swings.

I'm trying to avoid Ham. Then again I don't know what good that would do.

RE: Diet and Aspergers
Me and my father noticed that eating too much MSG causes me to have seizures. I only suffered seizures when sleeping, and when I wake up, I feel like I got beat up by a gang in an alley, while the sides of my tongue are hurt from chewing hard on them, but heal up much faster than any part of my body.
I eat sweet stuff occasionally, while I drink water to make me feel I'm cleaning myself. I kind of like agave nectar and some other liquid sweeteners more, because they feel like they won't clog your blood veins.
Speaking of this topic's title, what if eating meat while pregnant causes the child inside the mother to become an Aspie or an autistic child? Some of us like Temple Grandin can understand animal behavior, and meat are animals as food.

Considering that most women eat some meat when pregnant, I don't think that there is a connection. Aspergers is highly genetic. I can point out several potential aspies in my family.
I think that TG understand animal behavior well because animals are sensory based creatures. We anthropomorphise them by attributing thoughts to them, but primarily they process information in a sensory way. That's why she was able to refigure the way that slaughter houses were designed - being hypersensitive, she understood why something might frighten or soothe an animal.
