Chemical straight jacket ...  Has anybody been ' Medicated ' ?

Chemical straight jacket / Chemical cosh...  Has anybody been ' Medicated ' ?

I am talking about instances where medical 'professionals' give such mediation as Fluoxetine Olanzapine to people who are Asperger to 'Treat' them. Often the consequence of Asperger is isolation and this of course will cause a person to feel sad. Also traumatic experiences can be overwhelming, too many things happening at once can sometimes be too much to deal with.

I speak from my own experience of mis-diagnosis and being given such medication some years ago.

Poll above?

I was prescribed Ritalin for a number of years - I have a huge gap in my memory, can't remember a single day of it.

Yes I have a few big gaps also : Thanks (admin) for posting of and course there is nothing to be ashamed of. If others on the forum do the same I am sure we will see that this is common practice and what has been done to those with Asperger all over the world, pschiatry is internationally organised so its crimes are inflicted all over the world. it's the psychiatrists giving these tablets to people who should be ashamed of these experiments they are conducting. And I was misdiagnosed as manic depressive. And forced to take unwanted medication for several years. Really zonked out for that time period of my life.

Rule 2. Refer to rule 1.

They sometimes gave a sedative at the mental hospital. It was great because it made in nearly impossible to think. I wish I had some... It would make things easier.

Don't remember what it's called though...

Heavily, for depression, now have four meds, could be for life. Never, for hyperactivity/ADD, at least as a kid, doc tried Welbutrin as adult. No drugs available for Asperger.

To me, antidepressants seems to have only been a big waste of money. I'll never take those again. Might as well take a sugar pill. It's cheaper for the same effect.

Prolonged absence of Effexor shuts me down, I start feeling sorry for myself, and it really does feel as debilitating as a bad cold or the flu

I think my brain knows the difference, big time. First the wierd dreams, followed by incapacitation.

RE: Chemical straight jacket ...  Has anybody been ' Medicated ' ?

I am the victim of the pharmacutical company. I went to the doctor and asked for something to help me sleep. Instead he gave me a powerful antiphycotic. The anti phycotic did the exact oppisode of what it was supposed to do and made me physotic. When I told the doctor about it, he perscribed something to curb those symptoms and I just got even worse symptoms but just kept being given more and more drugs to curb the side effects of the previous drug. I was practicaly a zombie and couldn't focus on basic life, let alone school work. Commiting me to a mental hospital would have only made things worse, they gave me more drugs and the stress of my routine being distrupted made me have a replase. The drugs were doing nothing but slowly killing me. I couldn't even walk without feeling like I was going to collapse from lack of breath. My doctor brother probably saved my life and told my parents I had to somehow get off of them. It took over five years but I eventualy did. I wish I could have graduated high school at eighteen like most kids too but I was still recovering. I couldn't sit down and read a book, let alone write a report on it. I couldn't do anything academily for over five years and that is why I am still in high school at 24. I also may be 24 physicaly, but mentaly I am still 14, perhaps even 8. I'm not ready for the college enviroment yet. We all mature at diffrent rates. There is no age limit for vet school so what's the rush?

RE: Chemical straight jacket ...  Has anybody been ' Medicated ' ?

There have been medications that were not good for me and should not have been prescribed. At one point I was on six medications at once, two of which were antipsychotics (I have never had psychotic symptoms). I was new to the system at the time and didn't know how to assert my own opinion about the meds, but thankfully I wasn't on them for too long because I was kicked out of my apartment and lost access to medical care.

On the other hand, some medications have been helpful. The ones that have been helpful are stimulants (Ritalin and Concerta) and antidepressants (Lexapro and Prozac). I tend to get marginally helpful results from these. I've also had some help from melatonin, which is an OTC sleep aid and considered "alternative", though studied by mainstream medicine and shown to be effective for jet lag.

Drugs are a tool to be used; they can be misused but that does not mean they should not be used at all. I think it is very important for you to be able to make your own decisions about medication.

I was on paxil for years; doctors never told me about the side-effects. Bad times.

RE: Chemical straight jacket ...  Has anybody been ' Medicated ' ?

I was put on antidepressants and antipsychotics by a doctor when I was younger. I had started hallucinating pretty badly at 12-15 years of age and was diagnosed with depression at 17. I felt that those pills didn't help me at all and took myself off them. I've never been put on anymore antidepressants or antipsychotics since then.
