Punk Song for Neurodiversity.

Heya. So, I play bass in an anarcho-punk band, sort of a Crass/crust sound to it. This song was written before I joined that band, when the drummer (who is also autistic) and I were considering starting a band called Autistic Death Squad (we would later be joined by a schizophrenic frontman, consider naming ourselves 'Section 8', then myself and the frontman got recruited into the current band, 'Ring of Truth').

The name 'Autistic Death Squad', which is in part a tribute to 'Appalachian Terror Unit', came from a joking discussion what would happen if groups like Aspies for Freedom or Autism Self-Advocacy Network became militant revolutionary groups targeting pro-cure groups. The chorus is meant to be sung, drone-like, by the whole band, except for the indented parts, which are sung by the lead singer, who shouts them out rapid-fire when the words 'death squad' are being sung by the rest of the band.

AUTISTIC DEATH SQUAD

They told you were worthless but they never told you why
the beat you 'cause you didn't want to look them in the eye
They said that you would cure you and they filled you up with lies
With stigma and with shame so that your self-respect would die!

Autistic Death Squad!
Autism Speaks Doesn't Speak for Me!
Autistic Death Squad!
Fight for neurodiversity!
Autistic death squad!
You can never silence me!
Autistic Death Squad!
Because my mind is free!

Can't be yourself if you're yourself you ought to be ashamed
It's okay to be different as long as you're the same
They couldn’t change your wiring or shift your brain waves
So they ****** you up with drugs so you'd learn how to behave!

chorus

When you try to tell them off, you’ll hear the commandant:
You can’t speak for yourself, my boy, you don’t know what you want
But no-one can speak for you, only you can make your sound
So raise your voice, raise some hell, and bring the *** down!

Autistic Death Squad!
Autism Speaks Doesn't Speak for Me!
Autistic death squad!
Fighting for neurodiversity!
Autistic Death Squad!
You can never silence me!
Autistic Death Squad!
Freaks and Revolutionaries!
Autistic Death squad!
Psychological anarchy!
Autistic Death Squad!
Because my mind is free!

(Notes: 'Freaks' is used in a positive sense here, as is 'anarchy')

^^ I'll be sure to, once we do the next recording; right now we're recording the rest of our current album, then writing the next one. We don't actually have any chords or anything for it yet.

That is so good! If you ever restart Section 8, I want to join it!

I want to write something more in-depth, with the sort of cutting lyrics that Bad Religion uses- you know, where they basically write a treatise and then find a way to turn it into a song. But, I only have the lyrical abilities to write sub-Crass-level songs.

Cool.  I'll take it in whatever form, chords or no.  I can do chords and percussion if you have it on top of a click track.

Here's one we got in trouble for playing on-base.  Ended up with two weeks of extra duty "as a warning" for being "unamerican".  lol.  It's a little rough because my guitarist went AWOL before we got a chance to re-record.

What? You got in trouble for playing that? This is shocking and hard-to-believe news.

Anywho, my band is too busy and to practice and I suck at writing chords. Any ideas?

RE: Punk Song for Neurodiversity.

So, we've got ourselves a guitarist, a solo musician who's dating the drummer in the anarcho-punk band, and we've made ourselves a trio for Autistic Death Squad.

Here's a rough recording of the song, from our first practice, with no bass, and with me messing up the lyrics

and the chords are:

DC
DF

Chorus: FCD
