Anyone put a "job wanted" ad?

Has anyone ever put up a "job wanted" ad?

I put one in a nanny web-board but hardly got a phone call in three years.  People want live-in because it is cheap.  Agencies for such jobs are terrible since all they really do is a ten minute interview and reference check which the families could do themselves.  The agency then charges the family $1500.

I am thinking of putting some other ads up for different jobs that I can do, in different job boards.  Any tips?  Success stories?

Some enterprising people have put out a big sign, looking for work, good at such and such and held it near a set of lights and attracted the attention of a current affairs program. It seemed to work for them. Like, heaps of offers.

Rule 1. Never, ever, give up (mind blanks excepted)
Rule 2. Refer to rule 1.

I did go around with some flyers but only got one email and phone back a few times but did not get to talk to anyone.

I would not walk around with a sign outside.  There are too many people begging in the streets anyway.

I am thinking of putting an ad in an internet board that has job postings.  There is a section for work wanted.

I once tried craigslist - it resulted in no responses whatsoever

I think because the section is called "resume" not "services offered" or "employment wanted".

I had an ad once on kijiji that only an agency called me.  They were very annoying.  They only told me that I was not "qualified" and needed to pay and take their "courses".

Mind you, this sort of technique would be interesting to try elsewhere - It may even work for those who can only work in specific environments due to anxiety, routine or claustrophobia (There has been a few people who have requested this sort of query in mind) We'll report back if there is any interesting developments in this Wink

RE: Anyone put a "job wanted" ad?

About 10 years ago, when I was still a student and I was looking for a summer job/part-time job I put a "job wanted" ad in my local daily newspaper and the local free-ads paper.  I asked for a data entry type of job.  I didn't get any responses though.   I've found that "job wanted" ads in newspapers tend not to be very successful, probably because it is mainly job seekers who read the job section of a newspaper rather than business owners who would be able to employ someone.  It was free to place the adverts in those 2 newspapers though, so I didn't lose anything.

If it's free to place a job wanted ad, then it's worth a try.  However, don't pin all your hopes on this.  Eventually I found a part-time job by applying after seeing an ad in the usual "jobs offered" section of the paper.

I think putting a job hunting, especially on nannies is too risky. We dont even know that the applicant has a criminal history. Better that you rely on agencies.

Nanny agencies are worse.  I applied to one and they said they would do a criminal search.  Of course I said fine because there is going to be no problem.  They said they did one but I know for a fact they did not.  So were they lying to parents?  I can go to the police station and get a criminal record check and documents myself if I pay the fee.  Only I would not get one until an employer asked for one since it would expire in something like a month.  So I would need to do it fresh every time.  Parents are perfectly capable of checking references and former employers too.
