RE: The issues of curing autism, and treating comorbids.

Whew! Talking about comorbidities... my Tourette Syndrome has taken me for quite a ride.  If you don't know what Tourette is, imagine stimming... except it isn't what you want to do, and you have no control over when or where you do it!  I've taken a dozen medicines in the last eight months for it... so far, they have yet to help.
Even worse than the disorder itself, the medicines!  If I were forced to take a medication, I'd rather be locked in a sewer than in a psych ward fed, say, Haloperidol or Risperdal.  Why?  I have horrible, sometimes dangerous reactions to these medicines, including painful muscle spasms that are paralyzing, to the point of inability to swallow and difficult breathing, inability to move... yaagh!

I've even got Post Traumatic Stress Disorder from mistreatment I recieved in some horrible ER's.

I completely sympathize with people who look at doctors and go "No way. They get too much control. I'll take care of myself, thankyou."
But at the same time, I know what it is to be so desperate, you'd jump off a bridge to get some peace.
That's where you come to the question: to be treated or not?

I've been to doctors who act like they own the world, and often end up going back to one wonderful lady who has bailed me out many a time when other doctors threw up their hands.

One doctor who might help someone in situation a might be a torturer to someone in situation b.
I wonder at how ER doctors routinely restart people's hearts, but can't treat a person with a movement disorder with a little dignity and find a way to allow you to feel human during treatment... ?  And they seem very keen on needles full of potent, allergic-reaction-inducing sedatives.

I now avoid ER's like the plague.  ER's are not the place for neurological disorders that can't be fixed with a simple shot or shock to the heart or stitches/ emergency trauma surgery or the messy, inhumane last-resort of four-point restraints.

Yes, I've been in restraints before.  And I am very much against their use except in life & death situations.

There’s always going to be more
Of the trouble, havoc and pain
All I can do is take another step,
Lean into the wind, and tell myself again:
There’s a way out,
There’s another door.
