Favourite/Best Guitar Player
Who is your all time favourite guitar player/s? Mine are John Petrucci (Dream Theater), Daniel Johns (Silverchair) and Brian May (Queen).
Just when I think I've worked it out; these pieces move and I'm back to the start

RE: Favourite/Best Guitar Player
Wow... really, really rough. So many. Alex Lifeson (Rush) is definitely one; arpeggiations, creating soundscapes, not doing the blues thing for every solo, etc. Jake E Lee, Badlands. Simply amazing. Chris Poland!!! Mr Bend-it-awesomely!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6PsJEYU1n...7fpStErc (and, how to bend Poland style) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qua_N3O03CI
Jimmy Page, but also John Paul Jones, for orchestration and variety in tone. Steve Vai, partially for his playing, but more so for his insight (copyrights, publishing, studio work, etc). Marty Friedman for his beautifully exotic playing on Rust in Peace. David Gilmour for.. being himself. Petrucci for Under A Glass Moon. Brian May for his "regal delay harmonies" and so much more. Steve Howe for being Steve Howe. Steve Rothery (Marillion) for more beauty. Mick Ronson, for making Bowie just that much better, and for providing a bit of "stage" for Randy Rhodes. And Randy Rhodes for his style (but not his tone... ugh). Eddie Van Halen for being himself. And, of course.. Mr Frank Zappa! (RIP).
Sykes, Hendrix, Eric Johnson, Fripp, Steve Morse, Knopfler, Lindsay Buckingham, Paul Simon, Iommi, Duane Allman, Dickey Betts, Blackmore, Townshend, Uli Jon Roth, Schenker, Jeff Beck, Malmsteen, Shawn Lane, Lukather, Gibbons, Johnny Marr, The Edge, Martin Barre, Schon, Tipton + Downing, Murray + Smith, Dimebag (RIP), Nugent, Steve Stevens... just far too many to list!!

RE: Favourite/Best Guitar Player
I would never claim a musician is the best guitar player. I would however say some who are among the best.
Steve Vai, Paul Gilbert, Joe Satriani, Yngwie Malmsteen, Jason Becker, John Petrucci are a few that certainly make the list. I think Buckethead could be included with them as well. I guess Micheal Angelo Batio too though I am not a big fan of him...
My favorite would have to be Jason Becker since his career got cut short much too soon. No, not because of substance abuse or something like that but because of ALS (Lou Gherig's disease). He was great back then and still composes music though he can no longer play it himself.
