Things we do that make our day.

So I wanted to start a positive thread about those things we do that make our day, mostly our routines or small routines that make us happy.

I hope there's not another thread for this, if there is I couldn't find one >:

So, the idea would be that we all post, like one thing at the time, and you know...

But! I'll start

When I buy chips I like buying only potato crisps. I like buying Pringles, because Lay's stax are too crunchy and too flavoury to me! I buy sour cream and onion always.

I like licking the flavour off it, then eating the crisp once I liked it (some people think its gross, but I have been doing this since I am 6, and its the only way I can enjoy chips!)

Doing this makes me very happy, it could turn a crappy day onto a very big eventful day.

I also like eating Froot Loops by colors in the morning (:

So how about you?

RE: Things we do that make our day.

Okay, some routines:

Morning:
Always raisen bran in the morning with cheese-its (only cheez-it brand, and only plain), with pepsi.
Need quiet and peace in the morning so I get up earlier than I have to- no lights on in the morning.
I light a candle and pray every morning. I have a table set aside for this that I call a communion table. I pray for my children first, then my husband, and then my students, also others too when it comes to me.

Night:
I always check on my children before I go to sleep, in the same order and in the same way.

My dh and I almost always take a bath, so we can talk about the day, then I make the bed a certain way and get water for my husband. I always ask "is the alarm set" and he always says "yes, like always." We take turns saying a prayer before we go to sleep, and then we always kiss goodnight which is sometimes funny in the dark. The alarm goes off ten minutes early, and he holds me until I have to get up. He is out of town right now, so my routine will be all fouled up Sad

I like all of my routines. When I was a kid I wanted routines, tried to have routines, but my parents always interfered. There was no privacy or autonomy, and now I finally have "my life"- very nice.Smile

BTW my Aspie son does the same thing with his chips and saltines. It makes me nuts because he leaves the chips and then I pick up a wet chip. I tell him- eat the chip if you are going to lick it!

Cheezits in the morning! That's very odd! Probably as odd as me when I drink fanta, I like adding 3 icecubes to it and waiting for them to melt, so the soda loses its gassyness and its more watery. I then, take a straw and drink it very slowly but all in one go, i could take about 10 minutes to do it but...

RE: Things we do that make our day.

Morning time: Paraplegic fun stuff is a must, and usually makes my day an unhappy one. But!!! Shower time = Music!!! This is my world. To be in the shower, music playing.. I get lost, and all the little strings that make up this Self pulse, vibrate and sing along. This is when epiphanies, smiles and ideas prosper. When this morning routine is disrupted or altered, it is very difficult for me to get back into a groove, and it can taint my whole day (read as: tantrums abound, lol). Oh- little to no sunlight if possible for morning and sleepy time, and there is only one person allowed to even attempt to be around me.

I love my late morning cereal!!!
Oh- btw- my schedule is skewed to the "norm" by about 6 hours; up around noon or so, lights out around 4am. I find that around 11pm or so the "air" becomes less dense.. almost like all those thoughts cramming the air go to sleep, leaving more room somehow. Always been a night owl, best time to write music or word for me.

RE: Things we do that make our day.

Rest time after lunch with my class.  I get to sit and pat the more restless little bodies to sleep, then can get to all the things that I was too busy with in the morning such as: writing up the journal, washing up the art things, putting away the playdough.  It's a quiet time, we play soft music and the sound of five-year-olds snoring softly is very soothing.  Some of the more active ones I'll let up to play with jigsaws or drawing if they show me they can do it quietly so as not to wake the others.  It's got to be one of the nicest times of the whole day, because it's quiet and one of the few times you can be reasonably certain that none of the children are going to try to kill another child, or hurt themselves by any of the various ingenious ways they manage when conscious.

When I taught Pre-K I loved this time of day, too Smile

Smile
I have my Nora Jones CD and my Enya ones in my desk specifically for sleep time.

We also have a selection of other quiet types of music, one I like very much is "Babies Love Mozart" which is very soothing as well.

If we've had a few days of rain where they've been unable to go outside and so are not so tired by rest-time, I may put on a story CD such as a Disney or some such.

But it's gotten to the stage now that if I hear Nora Jones or Enya on the radio, I actually start to yawn!  Talk about being as conditioned as Pavlov's dogs! Big Grin

RE: Things we do that make our day.

I heard playing Mozart and Beethoven is very good for the mind. I was told this by a nurse that takes care of my mom in the hospital, she said they play it to kids and people with brain injuries and they improve a lot upon it. However, I don't know why, do you have a clue? I might google it now.

I'm barely awake/day is already made.

Slugging around/doing nothing on weekends makes me... feel relieved. So there.

There is quite a bit of research on this.

I may be, I gotta take some MRI's (I broke my head and something was gonna leak, but it supposedly didn't and I woke up days after, no further studies have been made!) but I am fine, lol. If anything, I broke my head at 5, so I've lived with it my whole life and I know it's nothing I can't get over.
