What's your longest lasting "obsession".
I have had a lot of obsessions. Star Trek, M*A*S*H, Star Wars, Bullwinkle, The Beatles, Pink Floyd and currently a World of Warcraft obsession that's lasted about three years now.
But my most persistent and most dominant obsession is robots and in particular toy robots.
I have photographs of myself as an infant watching with rapt fascination as my older brother played with a tin robot. My photo albums are full of pictures of me growing up with toy robots that I still have today.
We had a full set of the Encyclopaedia Britannica in my house that included a small entry for toy robots. I must have read that paragraph a thousand times.
Today I have a collection of 100s or robots and have instilled a healthy love of them in my children (feels a bit guilty about that). I even produce and sell my own line of toy robots.
Anyway, I promise I'm not just posting this as a chance to chat about robots.
Well...not entirely anyway.
I really do want to know what other things people have spent a lifetime thinking about without ever getting bored.

My longest-lasting obsession?
Beyond a shadow of a doubt, video games. 17 years and still loving it!
Which is why I'm going into the industry. I want to create games, and if I get paid for it at the same time, cool.

Dinosaurs. I am 45 years old now, which means that I have not lost interest in dinosaurs in the past 40+ years.
These days I mostly just buy science magazines if they have a picture of a dinosaur on the cover, or I watch any sort of documentary on dinosaurs that I come across, and I read anything that I see about dinosaurs. So not exactly a full blown obsession like when I was a kid.

That's very cool. I had a near miss with a paleontological obsession.
Mine seems to focus on triceratops exclusively. I mean I learned a thing or two about other dinosaurs too, but mostly as a backdrop for my three horned friends.
I think I have like 20 triceratops models and toys.

None of them for me have lasted very long at all. I guess the longest of all of them has been fugues by JSB, and thats been, ah, between one and two years.
Unless you do count video games, I've loved video games my entire life.

RE: What's your longest lasting "obsession".
LIFE I used to wish that it was not so long lasting and that it wlould all come to an end. But now with happy pills from the doc, and the advancement of age, and a bit more empathy, and a wish to see stuff done, I kinda want it to go on being my obsession and want it to stop less.
Perverse and contrary as ever. If I understood me, I think I'd probably have myself committed!
The system is there to serve us. Not the other way around.

RE: What's your longest lasting "obsession".
i might sound delirius but im not obsessive
but i have interests - that i am obsessed with
but it isnt just one thing - they are heaps of them - at the same time
my major obsessions are music, video games, makeup, fashion (paticularly androgmy+ alterative/ anti fashion - not trendy stuff!)
then there are sub obsessions / intrests
with music my sub obsessions are synth pop + indie rock + 80's rival. then in music there are sub sub obsessions for different bands
this changes very often. for instnce la roux + operator please + lady hawke and many many others
as for my longest running obsession ... no idea!

I have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it will be with a knife.

If I offended you, please let me know via pm. I tend to do it without realizing it. I can be clueless as to how my humor comes across. Please be nice about it.
